Strength in good memories

My husband passed away on Oct 3rd, aged 65 after 19 months since diagnosis. He had the standard operation and chemotherapy and recovered really well but in last 7 months deteriorated losing movement in his right arm,and last 4 months his right leg was almost gone , and then last 2 weeks a wheelchair for showering. He was given Avastin in June which rescued the leg but gave him thrombosis and after that a rollercoaster of cortisones and other medication which made him depressed, irritable and changed his personality slightly.

He loved music but last 4months no longer wanted to listen to anything. But he was articulate and enjoyed his food til his penultimate day The last day he had a haemorrhage, and never woke up. We were together 32 years.

Now we are preparing a personalised memorial of all the happy times which is helping us alot and erasing the sad ones and bringing back his music. He was equivalent of a Spanish John Peel excited by new music every day nd has died at the same age.

When reflective he recommended an old album Gratitude by Earth Wind and Fire to contrast with modern times where young people isolate themselves from one another on mobiles. We are listening now.

My learning would be value every moment you can, be kind and compassionate whatever, and get help from friends and family and look after yourself to keep strong as a carer to keep positive to try to bring as much joy and comfort to all.
