Eye drops side effects.

Hi there, just wondering if anyone has had experience of darkening on eyelids as a side effect of eye drops, I've tried lots of different concealer but doesn't seem to cover it, keep getting asked how I got the black eye🤨, wondering if anyone can recommend a good concealer or anything else.?

hi Chris

I’ve noticed that there has been a darkening of the skin around my eyes since I started using Latanoprost.

I can’t recommend a good concealer, as I’ve not had much luck with concealers in general, they tend to dry my skin. What I am doing is after I’ve put the drops in and waited a while,I take a cotton pad dampened with water and wipe the skin around my eyes. I’ve been doing this since my last check up when a very helpful glaucoma nurse suggested it, mainly because I was getting sore skin around my eyes , but I’ve noticed that the darkening hasn't worsened.

I’m interested to see any concealer recommendations that are made, as I am self conscious of the pigmentation.

I ve been using YSL touché Eclat pen cream concealer .. seems to work . And a touch of light brown eye shadow when I go out .. ( it’s not cheap tho ) one of my lids seems worse than the other .someone mentioned putting a thin layer layer of Vaseline to protect ur skin when putting the drops in so when wiping ur eye it dosnt go on your lid

Thankyou I will check that one out , I've had a trab in right eye and don't need drops in that one,so looks more odd with it only being on left eye, thankyou.

Hi there, same here. I use YSL Touché eclat as already mentioned, easy to apply and blends in naturally. Currently trying Bare Minerals concealer which is heavier and looks more like wearing make up.

All the best.

Also have darkening under the eyes using Monopost. Use YSL Touché Eclat and foundation. Also going to get bigger glasses.

Yes. I had dark lids and under eye too. Can't remember which drop caused. Spoke to optician at CHEC Binley and she changed drop, which improved appearance of eye. Good luck. I called it Cod eye!! Angela

Hi, me again. The drops I took were Bimatoprost 3ml. Used one drop at night. Took about 2 months to start causing the bruising effect. Ang x

Yes I take them,it must be them that causes the discolouration.

Loreal concealer works for me along with their foundation allover to balance me out. Not doing too bad for 80 and my daughters advice, she is a make up artist. Good luck.😍

I don’t mind the darkening, it looks like brown eyeliner and I’m quite pleased with the effect.

Mine is just on one eye ,and it's more of a reddy purple and covers at least half of eyelid, and my eyelashes are thicker in that eye.

I had black rings with Monopost- very difficult to cover up. I have mid brown discolouration with Dorzolamide.

I prefer Clarins Instant Concealer. I have light complexion and 02 shade works.

A tube lasts absolutely ages

Mines like a reddish purple, I will look into that one , thankyou 🙂

I've had gradual discoloring both under my eyes and my eyelids over the last 10 years. Apparently, this is a pretty common side effect. I was using Latanoprost for years and now I'm on Lumigan. It's just hard to get all of the eye drop to stay in the eyes!I will try the suggestion of a damp cotton ball pad after I use the drops, hopefully that will help. My doc calls it the raccoon effect.

Here's what I'm doing: I use an eye cream prior, to keep the concealer from feathering into the fine lines. Then just a tiny bit of concealer under my eyes and just a bit on the lid (being careful to not get any into my eye, of course). I really use very little and can add more if needed. I've used several concealers but my current go to is the Dior 24H Wear & Hydration Creamy Concealer. It's pricey but I just use a tiny bit so anticipate it will last for a while. I've also tried Haus labs and Ilia concealers but the Dior is really the best for me. There may be other much less expensive options. Unfortunately, Sephora doesn't give samples of the concealers as they are in a tube with a wand. But you can return Sephora items, and I'd encourage you to try them in the store on the inner wrist and then walk around and see how they look. Drug stores won't have the try ahead option but items can be returned, of course.

I then use a light powder eye shadow (currently using MAC satin eye shadow in Shroom) or Ilia liquid chromatic eye tint in Glaze (Ilia has less crap in it). I guess it's really a balance between not using anything that might "creep" into my eyes vs not having that sunken eye, racoon look (like my dad did). Good luck, I think there are a lot of us in the same boat, both men and women :)
