Travelling with Eye Drops

I use Cosopt and Lumigan eye drops in single dose containers. I am due to fly to France in September and am a little confused as to how these are allowed on the plane, especially in my hand luggage. I have googled this but keep getting conflicting information. Was wondering if anyone on here could offer any information regarding this. Thank you.

I have travelled many times with my drops in my hand luggage and never had a problem. I always put them in a clear bag and put them on the top of the tray to go through the X-ray machine.

No one has ever questioned it. Enjoy your holiday.

When travelling abroad with prescribed medicines I always take with me my repeat prescription paper. This proves that the medicines are for me. There have been well documented cases where people have travelled with medicines for other people. eg for sale.

I use the same drops in the same format. I usually take two lots - one in hold luggage and one in clear plastic bag in hand luggage. Just being cautious in case one lot gets lost.

Good idea to take two lots

last klm flight from Humberside, they said put the drops with prescription details showing on the box, seperate to other liquids as they don’t count as how much liquids u have! But more fussy about the size of the plastic bag u put them in! Amsterdam no need to take liquids out of hbaggage!

I can re-iterate that I also take one lot in my hand luggage and a duplicate in the hold just to be extra safe, I wouldn't want to be without them. I use exactly the same as you and with being preservative-free, they are quite bulky. I take my prescription too and always leave the medication in its original packaging.I've never been challenged despite one holiday being for 5 weeks - that was a lot of medication - and another to Japan. I've flown out of Birmingham and Heathrow. The 1st time, I mentioned it at security but found it was no big deal.

I hope this helps!

I wasn't going to take the boxes that they come in, just the little individual packets containing 5 cosopt and 10 lumigan in each. Do you think that will be ok. It does say on the packets what is in them. I will take my prescription too

I would think so as mine has never been examined at all. I'm just a bit OCD about my glaucoma as I have already lost peripheral vision so to have the drops confiscated would be disastrous for me! The drops say to leave in original packaging so I do....Incidentally, when I flew to Japan in March, my case got lost in transit (mine was the only one!) and took 3 days to arrive so I was so relieved I had my drops in my hand luggage too.

Good luck, I'm sure it will be fine. Enjoy your holiday!

I was using Azopt, Combigan and Lumigan and for many years I used to travel to Australia for around six months. I used to take six months supply, mostly in hold luggage with a month's supply in my hand luggage in the plastic bag with other liquids in case of mislaid luggage. It was never queried and Australia are very fussy about such things!

Also on shorthaul flights I have occasionally forgotten to take the drops out of my general handluggage and they not been picked up by the scanner, too small I guess.

Good luck and enjoy your holiday.

Good morning from Thailand.... you already have good advice....no worries I have travelled by air many times and taken 6 months supply at a time in a cool bag....I always declare that I have eye medication... Just enjoy and make sure they are stored in the fridge when you get there....I read France is already in a heatwave!
