Kahook Dual Blade Operation

I have low tension glaucoma diagnosed 5 years ago. On Tiopex drops after both previous drops prescribed resulted in a severe reaction. Still get sore, dry eyes but use lots of artificial tears. At last checkup was told my pressures were sub-optimal and there was new damage to my right eye. I had SLT 2 years ago which apparently made very little difference. I have been offered Kahook Dual Blade surgery. I also have cataracts which my optician says are not advanced enough to be referred for removal. The doctor at the eye hospital agrees with me that the cataracts are probably the main cause of my sight problems and recommended this surgery because they would remove the cataracts at the same time. Has anyone had experience of this procedure?

Good Morning. It is my experience that a cataract operation ( lens replacement) can help lower eye pressures.

Hi there from my consultant; a cataract op will likely help reduce your pressures however only to the low teens. If you have NTG as I have, their removal wouldn’t help because my pressures are always lower than than the op would achieve. So, if your cataract isn’t advanced, it then depends on your current pressures; I’d ask your consultant for more info.

Thank you for your reply. The dual blade surgery is meant to help lower the pressures as these are sub-optimal. Removal of the cataracts is just a bonus I believe. What I was asking was if anyone has experience of the Kahook Dual Blade surgery.
