I've been on Prednisolone for many years due to a longstanding inflammatory disease in my right.
Other steroids I've just been on temporarily after surgery. I had some inflammatory issues after a cataract in my left a while back and they replaced the first steroid with Dexa to clear it up.
It seemed to cause my vision to be blurry and I was feeling pressure in my head so was glad to get off it. Do you feel any side effects with it?
I’ve been steroid eye drop since my operation in September and now I’m off them till I see my surgeon on Friday as they want to see what my pressures are like being off them. They made me feel a bit ill in the first few weeks but I think that being on them as well as antibiotic drops made me feel the way I did. I will hopefully know more on Friday.
my consultant at Moorfields put me on a once daily dexamethasone drop ongoing, to preserve my bleb. I’ve been wondering if there are any downsides to this.
I was on dexamethasone in 2011 for about 1 year and then slowly tapered off. I was on this medication to treat uveitis. The Dexa caused my IOP to spike and so they had to finely balance my glaucoma care with my uveitis treatment. They also advised me that I would probably get early onset of cataracts and that’s exactly what happened. Just this month I’ve had my Cataracts removed and I am Dexamthsone to address the postoperative inflammation. This is a 6 week course.
I have been on dexafree for years! I have a maintenance dose of one, or at times, two drops a day. I use the preservative free ones. This is because I get frequent attacks of uveitis as well as glaucoma.
I'm the same as you, dexafree everyday, to manage both Uveitis and Glaucoma at the same time is an absolute minefield, worst of all I only have Glaucoma because of Steroid Uveitis treatment, yet still have to take them as their is no alternative.
Similar story here! I started to have uveitis frequently and at first I just had acute glaucoma when I had an attack of inflammation. But then frequent use of steroid drops led to chronic glaucoma. And eventually to the need for trabeculectomies and recently a shunt in my right eye. And also, because I’m a woman, and prolonged use of steroids can cause osteoporosis I got that too! Still, I’m very grateful to still have okayish vision at 74, 50 years after my problems started.
