hi
has anyone else been diagnosed with 2 narrow angles in each eye, but yet the other two angles in my eyes are draining normally?
I’m so distressed - I have an ultrasound scan on Friday
any advice would be much appreciated

Paula, unless you have been told that you have an unexpected and severe glaucoma problem please relax! The bare information you have given us is impossible to fully understand, but does not appear to be nything other than a preliminary observation which requires further investigation.
Doctors sometimes have very strange ways of explaining things! The angle referred to is presumably the the gap between the back of your cornea and your iris, and if it is rather shallow it MAY be limiting the drainage of the fluid and causing a raised pressure. Each eye has only one 'angle' but perhaps yours appears to be rather variable around the circumference (all the way round the circle of your eye) and has been described to you in the manner you have quoted.
Hope the ultrasound and subsequent discussion is not too worrying.
Hi Thankyou for taking the time to reply
They suspect I have something called plataue iris, the pressure in my eyes is 18 both the letter the consultant sent to my gp said problem both eyes ‘ risk angle closure glucoma’ ‘ ‘plateau iris both eyes suspected.
Good, thanks for the further info. Looks like all being taken care of and although your concern is understandable, no need to be worried.
Thankyou for replying the worry of this his completely distorting my mental health I’m having severe panic attacks and life because of my mental health is becoming very difficult. I have absolutely convinced myself that I am going to loose my sight.
In the appointment with the consultant he said if it’s plateau iris there’s nothing we can do?
I’m so terribly confused and upset by all of this
Plateau iris is a bulging forward of the cliary body and iris potentially limiting the outflow of fluid. There are several surgical options to reduce this risk, the consultant probably meant that the structure of your eye can't be changed to reduce the actual bulging, not that he/she is powerless to remediate the possibility of angle closure. Do your own internet search on "surgery for plateau iris" and I hope you will be reassured !
Hi there. If you have plateau iris then it can put you at risk of angle closure glaucoma, as you have said. This does not mean that you have glaucoma. Please do not worry. You have said that you are convinced you will lose your sight, but this will not necessarily happen. Some people with plateau iris never develop glaucoma. However, I would just like to let you know what the signs of angle closure glaucoma can be. If you experience ongoing and persistent eye pain, extreme headaches, halos around lights and nausea, then you should go down to A&E immediately. I do not want to worry you by saying this, but it's important you are aware of what you will need to do, should you experience this. They will then provide you with treatment, which will likely be a quick laser treatment. Please do call us on the helpline if you need further reassurance on 01233 648170 or email helpline@glaucoma.uk. Hope this helps.
