I have had glaucoma now for about 8-9 years, and using Latanoprost/timolol drops which is keeping my pressure at an aceptable level. I have got used to some staining below my eyes which I believe is a possible side effect. I had my first cataract removed in April of this year and my second 7 weeks ago. Since then I have noticed my eyelids above and below as well, a pinky red colour. No one seems to know for sure what causes this? I have spoken to a pharmacist, my GP and an Optician. It would seem that red eyes can be quite common but not what I'm experiencing? I am wondering if anyone is having /had the same problem (could I have become allergic to the drops I'm using) and if so have they been treated for it. I live in the UK by the way.

red eyelids
I use 2 types of eye drops; brinzolamide with timolol & also bimatoprost. Years ago, I had slightly inflamed eyelids & the consultant advised me to use Blephasol to clean them, which I’ve been doing daily ever since. My upper eyelids are still a bit red & I have dark circles under my eyes; if I’m going out, I use Clarins concealer, but at my age, it’s not a big priority on the worry list!
I also have red eyelids- I was told this was a common side effect of these drops- I use concealer!
I use latanaprost, and I’m experiencing red, dry, sore eyelids from time to time. I’ve assumed it’s the eye drops causing it. In recent weeks I’ve started bathing my eyelids with a cotton pad soaked in boiled cooled water after using the drops, and touch wood, it’s helped greatly.
I have the same problem with Timolol and Monopost, the preservative-free version of Latanaprost. I just think it's a side effect of the harsh reaction these drugs have on our skin and our eyes. I use a daily eye mask for ten mins that I heat up. It helps ease dry eye/blepharitis. And yes, I use concealer when I go out.
My consultant advises a very small smear of Doublebase gel on upper and lower eyelids to help the redness and sore eye lids. It can be purchased reasonably priced at a chemist or obtained on prescription.
Thanks! And obvious question: Has it helped ease the redness and soreness? Best wishes
Yes, I use Azopt (brinzolamide) 3 times daily and Zalatan once at night, I have blepharitis so bath my eyes with cooled boiled water wipe top and bottom lids with Blephaclean wipes obtainable at a chemist or on prescription, these can be torn into strips, then a very small smear of double base. It is quite a chore 3 times a day. I've use eye drops since 2003 tinted glasses hid my red and sore eyes but I am grateful I continue to pass the DVL test which enables me to keep my independance by being able to drive aged 78.
Hi. After putting drops in I rinse my eyelids with a couple handfuls of cool water. To remove the drop slop. And I stopped doing nasolacrimal occlusion. Eyelid skin is quite delicate and does not appreciate drop slop and finger pressure.
