Timing of drops and red eye

Hi,

I use drops for both eyes and have Monopost (preservative free Latanoprost single unit doses) in the evening as Latanoprost in a bottle caused irritation. Two weeks ago, Brinzolomide 12 hourly was added. ( This does have preservative and may have to be changed. However, it is not causing daily problems like the original Latanoprost did before it was changed).

Some days my eyes are red and feel “dry” and then ok the next day. I am not sure if it if I put the evening doses in too late when I am busy with various commitments. Any experiences on whether timing causes redness eg if too close to bedtime ?

Thank you.

It hasn't made any difference to me re the timing of the drops. Until recently I was on 4 different drops in the evening. (including Latanapost). The only one that made my eyes feel more sore was ikervis so I used that one as the final drop of the evening.

I found that preservative in eye drops definitely caused soreness for me.

Hi Astilbe, Thank you for your reply. You mentioned that you were taking 4 different drops until recently. Are you still on some preservative containing drops ? If so, have you tried preservative free alternatives ?

Hi Haraba. All of the drops were preservative free. I have been/am on various eyedrops for about 25 years and discovered early on that preservatives made my eyes more sore. Sometimes I had to be very firm that I couldn't have drops with preservative in and that occasionally resulted in me having a different drop or a different dose.

Might be worth re-visiting your schedule. They say to do them around 12 hours apart morning and evening. I do mine around 8am and 8pm. It only takes a few minutes in the evening for drops to clear (I take Brinzolamide) so you might be able to take 10 minutes out of your other activities. If they work on keeping IOP ok it might be worth a shot trying the most straightforward remedy

Hi NewCardinal,I am getting used to incorporating the timings into my routines better. I have found that not putting the evening drops in within 3 hours of retiring for bed and ensuring that I do not press on the naso-lacrimal (tear) ducts for more than a minute have significantly lessened the redness.

Thanks.
