Morning, I have closed angle glaucoma, both eyes, diagnosed a couple of years ago. I’ve had 2 lots of laser treatment, touch wood I’m doing fine, my next recall is a years time, any problems I can ring my Eye Clinic and get an appointment before then or go to my Eye Cas.
My problem is a small one and more a nuisance than a problem 😳. After using my eye drops, about an hour afterwards I sometimes, which is becoming more regular, I get the very bitter taste at the back of the throat. I do close off my tear ducts to stop the drops from draining, which it does initially but then up to an hour afterwards it seems to drain.
Any advice please to stop this and is it bad for your system to swallow.
Thank you. 😃

How long do you do the tear duct for? Maybe try for longer? 2-3 mins? I also found that if I manage to put in just one drop in each eye, I don't get the bitter taste. But especially with Dorzolamide I very often over squeeze the bottle, and end up putting too much in, and then it goes to the back of my nose and throat.
Thank you for your reply. I do the tear duct for 2 minutes and very carefully only put one drop in each eye. I find it’s not straight away it can be up to an hour afterwards 😳
Yes I have exactly the same effect 1-2 hours after using the drops. I close the tear ducts for 2 minutes (2 hours seems a very long time!)
I have now had three different brands of Dorzolamide and I notice that NONE of them mention closing the tear ducts in the instructions. The first time I was prescribed it I didn't know it was necessary, and half an hour after use I felt weak, dizzy and exhausted and this lasted for several hours. I was taken off the drops and only tried them again a couple of years later, when I knew better!
Get a Simply Touch Eye Drop Applicator (Amazon or others). You can put an amount smaller than a full drop and place it in your eye. It helps reduce all side effects.
