One of the side effects can affect the taste buds, so it sounds as thought the drop is getting into your tearduct.

Punctual occlusion can help regarding side effects. When you put your eyedrops in, close your eyes and gently pres on your tearduct for up to 2 minutes. This help to stop the drop getting to the back of the throat and encouraging side effects.
