I have recently been diagnosed with Glaucoma and I am also a contact lens wearer, I have just started using Eysano drops as they are preserved free, I am really struggling with the bottle shape getting the drops in my eyes, can anyone help with advice please. I was using Timolol and had no problems. I am really stressed about it and not sleeping due worry, which is causing me a lot of anxiety.

Hello. With the Eysano drop, it can take a few seconds for the drop to come once you have squeezed the bottle. Unfortunately there is not a compliance aids that would fit the bottle to help with putting the drops in. It is important that your concerns are shared with your consultant. They would want to know and not want you to leave it and become anxious. You can contact them through the eye secretary. They can then look at offering you an alternative preservative free drop.

Thank you for all your suggestions, much appreciated. I wear gas permable (hard lenses) and allow at least an hour before putting my lenses in. Unfortunately I am on drops twice a day, but I am only wearing my lenses for a couple of hours a day when I need to drive as overall vision is so much better.

Hi Nala2509! Loooong post follows sorry! I use two different preservative free drops ( Eyreida and Eydelto as I became very allergic to the preservative in standard drops). The new droppers did take some getting used to and were very different from my previous drops. It took me a while to get used to the dropper on them as it is flatter, with little or no nozzle. I found the key is to hold the bottle as vertical as possible and your eye right underneath it (well as near as directly under as is physically possible...some people lie down I don’t as I have to do my drops anywhere I can as I have to do drops 3 times a day and lying down isn’t always practical) so the drop falls out in a straight line to your eye and preferably into the pocket you have created by pulling out your lower lid. If you angle the bottle even slightly the fluid attaches to the top of the bottle and won’t “drop” cleanly. Thicker drops (Eydelto in my case) do take longer to come out and you do have to squeeze quite hard. Both difficult to do with your head angled and your other hand holding lower lid open!🥴 I found I tended to investigate why it wasn’t dropping and then bingo the drop would pop out, usually landing on my cheek. 😬 I have found my thicker drops also sometimes produce a globule of air bubbles rather than a drop the first try, so I let that one drop out onto a tissue. The next drop is usually a “perfect” drop without air bubbles. Eyreida drop, however, is very runny and fluid. This container I have to try to let go of quickly once the first drop appears or I get two drops rapidly which isn’t ideal to get more than one drop in your eye, so to be avoided. So practise controlling the drops (onto a tissue) and once you have that nailed then you just have to nail the head position. You have probably been told that with preservative free drops always make sure your hands are washed and clean and don’t touch the nozzle to your eye or with your fingers in order to avoid introducing bacteria to the bottle. As has been said speak to your consultant if you still are struggling. My situation was desperate when I started on these. I spent a year of lockdown miserable with red, sore, gritty eyes streaming constantly and blurry, as my consultants letter prescribing new preservative free drops went astray in the post. The immediate change of having eyes that were relatively free from irritation was so amazing I was determined to crack getting those preservative drops in my eyes, which has taken a while to perfect.
