If this is an NHS hospital in UK then often these days you are seen by junior team members and then your medical records reviewed digitally by a specialist consultant, who sometimes then wants to add something. In your case eyedrops.

I would see this letter as good news as someone is looking closely at your records. But if you have questions about it contact your consultants secretary and ask why the drops have been added.

Try not to get too anxious until you have answers. Easier said than done I know!

Hello,

It can be daunting and scary when you a prescribed eyedrops, but it also a good sign that the consultant has acted upon it straight away and you will now be monitored closely.

It may be ocular hypertension and not glaucoma. This is when the eye pressure is in the normal range of 10mmHg-21mmHg but is in the higher range, but no damage. The eyedrops may have been prescribed as a preventative measure to stop glaucoma from developing. As Beecalmed has mentioned, contact the eye secretary for clarification. I would encourage you to start taking the eyedrops. They are only prescribed if the consultant feels they are necessary.

It is worrying when you are first described the drops. I have been using Monopost for over a year for high eye pressures. I hope it will stop me getting glaucoma as it makes you realise how precious your sight is. Good luck.

Hi I have been using latanaprost for over 3 years for pressure change in one eye, have regular hospital check ups and so far no sign of glaucoma so hopefully doing the job, trust your consultant.

Please don't worry. Everyone is different and you will find the answer in the end.

If Latanaprost is all you have been asked to use then that is not a cause for great concern.
