Practitioner at eye hospital

I have just had what should have been a virtual appointment at my hospital to check my eye pressures. Instead I got to see a fantastic lady who wasn’t a doctor but some sort of practitioner with a specific interest in glaucoma from another hospital covering for a colleague. I was mistakenly down for a clinic visit rather than virtual clinic. She was able to do most of the tests apart from the field test. She explained many things to me which were never revealed over past two years. My eye pressures have now gone down thankfully to 14 from 16R and 21L. So the Monopost drops seem to be working. She used a machine which had a blue light placed on each eye. This was gold standard she said as eye pressure measurements can be variable according to equipment used. She showed me all my scans and explained everything. I’m afraid my experience with the doctors has been rushed and nothing has ever been explained. I really think I was lucky today. This is how all NHS appointments should be. It was like going to a private hospital. I have learnt so much from this site too, so I feel well-informed.

That sounds like a great appointment, as you say usual appointments are rushed so well done that lady.

Hi Dorset22. Similar experience. I have just had my annual checkup with a practitioner, who explained everything really well to me and gave me a lot of reassurance. I am a straightforward case I think so no need to see the consultant this time. Agree with you this site is so helpful and supportive. All the best.
