I have had a trab in my right eye and still take drops for pressures in the left eye. I tend to suffer a bit with hay fever and dust mite allergies. I get very itchy eyes. Although now it’s only the eye with the trab that is constantly itchy. I guess the eye drops must prevent it in left eye. Does anyone use any over the counter drops for itchy eyes that don’t contain antihistamine? My understanding is antihistamines can affect eye pressures. I am nervous if putting anything in my eye.

Allergy’s and alternative to anti histamines
Hello VerdiG,
I use preservative free Thealoz Drops, obtained through prescription, for my dry eyes. I have Glaucoma in both eyes, my right eye had a Paul tube implant 14 weeks ago. I don’t know whether Thealoz drops contain antihistamine - I wouldn’t think so - I’ve just had a quick look but couldn’t see anything to say they did, but best to check with pharmacist. I would imagine most eye drops designed for dry eyes would help soothe your eyes, especially the one with the trab. I didn’t know antihistamines can increase eye pressure! I wonder if over the counter tablets such as loratadine (non drowsy) can also affect eye pressure? I think the dry eye drops might be the best option. Hope this helps. Regards, Gill
I have to take Loretadine daily to combat allergies. My consultant says there’s no issue taking them with my glaucoma.
I get itchy dry eyes in summer. I use Thealoz Duo on prescription. I’ve also been given Hylo-forte which works as well. Both are preservative free which is key as I’m allergic to preservatives in drops. Neither have Antihistimine in as far as I’m aware.
Dear VerdiG
My consultant assured me that OTC medications for hay fever were safe to take ( I have open angle glaucoma).
