Has anyone any experience of this? Did it help if so?
A YAG capsulotomy is a special laser treatment used to improve the vision after cataract surgery. It is a simple, commonly performed procedure which is very safe. During your cataract operation, the natural ens inside the eye that had become cloudy is removed.

Yes I had this done in 2011. I had a macular hole repair and lens replacement done at the same time and my eye remained blurred after the operation. Apparently it sometimes happens after cataract surgery. Yag is a very simple laser procedure - I had to have mine done twice because the first one wasn`t effective enough.
Now I can see clearly through that eye apart from one tiny black spot that was due to the macular hole repair.
Hi, I haven’t yet, but have been told by my ophthalmologist that I need it following my cataract surgery a couple of years ago. As you have posted he has told me it’s a very simple procedure that he will do and very quick. He seems to think there will be no issue and it will remove the cloudy vision. For me actually it doesn’t seem cloudy all the time, just sometimes.
The thing that hurts me most is the cost!! I have gone private due to the lack of appointments on the NHS and I now trust my ophthalmologist and don’t want anyone else to do the procedure. However, the fee the hospital he is based at charge for a 10 minute procedure is ridiculous! The consultant fee is nothing in comparison!
Anyway, sorry for the rant and good luck with your procedure.
During my Cataract op a few years ago now my right eye bled profusely for some time and they had to wait for it to stop...slight damage to it I believe...and since then the film has gradually grown over that eye reducing my vision and losing me my DVLA licence last year. I was told removal of that film was not that successful and better to leave it. Since then of course I 've hear of YAG and thought it must be quite new...and from what you say may be exactly what I need. My next eye appointment check up is in September hence doing some research now! Thanks to all who respond as it will help a lot.
YAG capsulotomy is not a new procedure. It was a very common procedure in the eye clinic where I worked as a secretary prior to 2011. My understanding is that the back of lens capsule, from which the natural lens has been removed during cataract surgery, becomes thickened which reduces the amount of light which reaches the retina. The YAG laser is used to make a hole in the lens capsule to let the light through. Your clinician should be able to advise as to whether this condition is what is causing your visual problems and whether this procedure can help.
Thank you! I know my Consultant did say there was a procedure to remove the blur which began after my Cataract ops about 6 years ago now (time flies!!) but it wasn't very successful so best left alone at that time. I wondered it YAG was a new procedure developed since then..but looks lile it isn't. I will talk to the Consultant about it when I next see him as I know my right eye has deteriorated..peripheral mainly...and never really happy with that lens anyway! Thank you to all for responding.
