travelling abroad and eye drops

I will

Be flying to the canaries in a few weeks and want to know if it’s best to travel with my eye drops in my hand luggage or in the luggage that goes in the hold

I do have eye drops that needed to be stored in a fridge

I have bought the travel wallets but interested to hear how others have managed especially through security

Hello Crafty-gran,

I would suggest taking any medication in your hand luggage using your travel wallets( my wallets seem to work well). Do take plenty of medication just in case of delays. If your GP is reluctant then tell them you are going abroad so you get extra.

If you also have a repeat prescription list of all your medications at hand to show any security officers then that should also be helpful.

I rarely fly these days but to be sure I suppose you could contact the airport or airline for any special regulations.

Hope you enjoy some good weather,

best wishes

Hello, Please keep your eye drop with your hand luggage. Please keep them in the clear plastic bags and put it separately at security check in. Otherwise you will be called out and check your luggage. with best wishes.

hi Crafty-gran

Whenever I fly, I always keep my eye drops in my hand luggage. I use the FRIO cooling wallets that keep eye drops cool for 45 hours. I take the FRIO wallet out of hand luggage for scanning when going through security. I’ve not had any problems whatsoever, and fly regularly.

Hope this helps

Thank you

I have a Frio wallet , it’s first time going aboard since starting my eye drops and security at airports can be a nightmare

Did you leave them in the wallet going through or have to take them out

From advice on here I will also take proof of my prescription

I’ve always left the drops in the wallet, I carry a copy of my prescription but have never needed it, nor has security ever asked me to open the wallet.

Hope this helps and have a wonderful time.

I travel long haul quite a bit . I use FRIO pouches and take most in my hand luggage . I have lubricant drops also that I pack I. The hold as they are not a problem if they get lost .

Drops once out of the fridge normally say they are fine for 28days once starting to use them as long as below 25 degrees and FRIO has always worked perfectly for that

I would recommend taking in hand luggage in case your baggage goes missing. Just put the drops in your liquids bag for security and all will be fine. Enjoy your holiday

I have always put eye drops and all other medication (3 different eyedrops and 9 pills) in hand luggage. Have never had a problem with this and don't recall ever having it queried. Too many instances of main luggage going missing, sometimes for days, so would never risk it.

I travel regularly to the Canaries and have never had a problem. Like others on here I use a FRIO pouch to keep them cool and carry them in my hand luggage. Just make sure you take them out of your bag when passing through security.

Having experienced delayed luggage which never caught up with us on a week’s holiday travelling round Switzerland I would say definitely put eye drops, and all other medication in your hand luggage.
