Hello jesolo12,

There are several different aids available that some people find helpful to administer eye drops. You will probably find a list of the aids on the Glaucoma UK website otherwise there is the helpline ; 01233 64 81 71.

I find that if you are able to store your drops in the fridge door ( the patient leaflet will inform you of the temperature ) then it makes it easy to feel a cold drop enter the eye. There are also several recommended methods of instilling the drops and this was covered in a webinar also on the Glaucoma UK website.

Best wishes

I don't use glaucoma drops but for a time I was using lubricating drops quite frequently and had a similar problem to yourself.

I perfected a method of tilting my head back so that I'm looking straight up, then rest my hand on the cheek for stability holding the bottle above the eye, while my other hand pulls down my lower lid.

After a while I would have 100% success with this. It may be worth experimenting with some harmless lubricating drops to get the hang of it.

Thank you I will give it a go ..but still think looking straight ahead in the mirror is easier for me ..

Hello. If you could call the helpline on 01233 648170 and tell us the drops you are using, we will be able to help you regarding the best dispensing aid that will help you in putting your drops in.

Just a thought... It might be worth you explaining your problem to your GP and asking for your repeat prescription to be changed to double your drop allocation every month. When I had a problem that's what my GP did for me and once I got the hang of it all I reduced the amount prescribed again.

I’m sure we all have our own methods. I’m 77 and my near sight is poor these days so I lean against a wall which steadies my head tilted backwards then I hold up a magnifying mirror which helps me insert the drops.

How many pairs of hands do you have ? Holding a magnifying mirror then pulling your eyelid down then holding the drops ..that's 3 hands needed in my case . .thanks for replying

Was wondering that myself, I find the whole process of putting eye drops in makes me so anxious.
