having my first operation
Hello, are you able to give a bit more information?
Hello Trish thanks for your reply well I've had my cataracts done in both eyes but I have developed Glaucoma in my left eye and after about a year of different eye drops that didn't control the pressure in my left eye it kept going up to 25 or 30 I was told I should have an operation or I would eventually go blind in that eye .I'm having my operation at the Brighton eye hospital in 10 days and I was very pleased to be told I am having MIGS micro shunt which is less invasive than a trabeculectomy. I'm lucky the sight in my right eye is perfect after the cataract op. So wish me luck. How about you. Best wishes Geoff.
I'm very well thank you Geoff.
There is a member of the forum who has had the presaflo mucroshunt. They are very active and I am sure they will reply to your post.
Everything crossed it goes well for you.
Hi Geoff,I just want to wish you luck with your operation and hope everything goes well for you.
I might be having same op in the near future so I will be following your progress.
Best wishes and take care x
Thanks Callie and good luck with your future op. shall keep you informed about my experience. Best wishes Geoff.
Hello bearf1r,
I see you are booked for your operation in a few days.
Hopefully you will be surprised at how straightforward the Preserflo implant can be.
It is normal to feel a bit anxious before any operation, but I was treated so well and apart from a small amount of discomfort everything was so organised and the staff very helpful.
I have had Preserflos in both eyes so I need not take any more eye drops except lubricating drops for dry eyes. Some patients do sometimes need to continue with glaucoma drops.
If you have a local anaesthetic then do make sure that you are warm and comfortable on the operating table, I had a towel to support my neck and extra blankets. Ask any questions before they start. It is best not to talk but raise your hand if you need to ask a question during the op.
After the op you will be given a supply of eye drops to take home , make sure you have plenty to cover any weekends when your G.P surgery may be closed. I also made out a chart pre op so I could tick off the frequent different drops .
It is worth getting organised with easy meals and easily acsessible pots and pans at home so you are not stooping after the op.
It is very important to follow all the hospital instructions, especially keeping your head above your heart and not carrying heavy bags or doing anything strenuous.
You will be given an eyesheild to wear the first day and then just at night for a week or two. Many patients see the surgeon the next day so you can ask any questions. You should also have a 24 hour emergency phone number from the hospital so you can always contact someone if you are worried.
I was advised to have some adhesive tape or sellotape at home so that I could attach the eye sheild every night.
Make sure you have good lighting at home especially near strairs and you may need a peaked hat and even a stick when out and about for a while.
Very best wishes
Thank you for taking the time to give me the advice I shall bear all that in mind and luckily I have two people at home to look after me but I am fit and able and have no other health probs, May get back to if I may should I need your advice on something,
Kind Regards Geoff,
HI muddledme. Had the operation 1 week ago and I have to tell you your advice was spot on. I was very anxious and the nurses kept telling me to relax and chill. All went quickly and smoothly my eye was checked by my very nice lady surgeon right after the op. and all was well. I was given a chart to keep me on track with the eye drops and I was told to use them every 2 hours for 3 months also for the first month I had another type of drop as well. Yesterday was back at Brighton eye hospital my eye checked all fine and my pressure 7 . Shall see the surgeon again in 3 weeks Thanks again for your help, My very best wishes to you. Geoff
Hello Geoff . Wish you all the best for your surgery, hope everything goes well as my surgery went well. I had a presserflo in my right eye in September, it was not as bad as I was anticipating. I had little bit of discomfort for a week or so but I am fine now, though I am still on steroid drops but will be stopped gradually in 3 months. I won't go into detail as I see muddledme has explained the procedure very well and accurately. I was petrified before the surgery so I had asked for general anaesthetic as I didn't want to be awake during the surgery. Te pressure in my eye was 3 soon after surgery but is 7 now. So it's all well. I am looking forward to not having to use eye drops anymore.
Anyway all the best. Keep us updated.
