What comes after a failed slt?
Sorry to hear that you are in pain. I hope a solution to this can be found soon. If your SLT has failed your consultant should review your case and will probably recommend some type of surgery. Every case of glaucoma is different so its impossible for a lay person to say what that will be. However, there are many options available and you should be optimistic that the right treatment plan will be found for you.
Hi thanks for yours reply ice always been in pain with glaucoma since being diagnosed 10 years ago I thought everybody was?
Hello. Diamox (acetazolamide) isnt really a long term solution. Your consultant may consider repeating the SLT. This can be done up to three times if they feel it is a viable option. If they feel it is not worth trying it again as the risk of failure is too high, they will discuss surgery.
Hi Trish I read about people being on high doses of diamox for 15-20 years in some cases for various problems
I am on acelazolomide long term (I hope) as I can no longer tolerate eye drops. Consultant happy to continue if I have regular blood tests as it can deplete potassium and damage kidneys. So far all good.
Occasionally long term use of Acetazolamide happens, but it isn't a common suggestion.
