After op for a shunt
Hello Johnneyh
I had an aqueous shunt implant on 6 April for volatile eye pressure due to exfoliation glaucoma. I cannot remember getting flashes that you mentioned. Do you have the Dexamethasone and other Glaucoma drops to instil as well? Do they help it?
If they persist I should ring the Opthalmologist on Call at your Hospital as they can advise you. As it’s the weekend the Clinic will be closed. I’m sorry that I cannot be of more help to you. I hope it’s successful. I’m just recovering from a Vitrectomy done 10 days ago! Good Luck. 🍀
Hi autumnlass thx for the reply ive had glaucoma over 30 years i first had a trab in left eye in 1990 and it worked well i went several years with out any troubleI then had to have the bleb redone as it lost its consistencey and was drooping into my eye and obstructing my vision
That seemed to work ok but they did cateract surgery on that eye and macular odema set in and i never recovered from that resulting in me losing that eye then i had cateract surgery on right eye which caused complications resulting in having a vitrectomy and my sight seemed to be stable in that eye i then went a few years been ok then all of a sudden my sight was blured and they did xrays scans and refered me to a retinal consultant who said it was macula odema and put me on a drop called yellox i had now been on that more than four years it seemed to clear the macular problem and they stopped that dtop and the retinal consultant discharged me but after visiting the glaucoma clinic they found the pressure was sky eye again so they put a shunt in right eye causing my eye to be even more blurred the glaucoma consultant refered me back to the retinal place which confirmed odema had come back
And started me back on yellox twice a day for the next six month im also on cosopt twice a day and monopost once a day plus hybak fir dry eye 10 times a day
Ps i put my repeat prescription in other day and when i when to collect the pharmacy cant get them and the supplier cant get them either its a complete nightmare on top of all this ive had bowel cancer
Oh Johnneyh - you’ve had a difficult time these last few years. I am sorry. I have the same trouble with supplies of eye medicines. It’s a nightmare for people who depend on these vital medicines. I’ve had this vitrectomy done as I have exfoliation glaucoma diagnosed last year. I had cataract done but the exfoliation glaucoma dislodged that lens and spiked the pressures up to 64. I had to wait 10 months for a new lens to come from Italy …the pressure was going awol - hence them putting in a shunt. It’s working fairly well now but this wretched exfoliation syndrome has wreaked havoc. I do hope you get your meds soon and get the support with the ‘flashing’ problem with the ophthalmologist on call if you’re concerned about it. You take care. X
what a nightmare my friend best of luck☘️🇳🇱🇺🇦
Thanks its a complete night mare ive turned from being a happy go luck guy to a nervous wreck it really as wrecked me i feel as though im just existing rather than living
Hello Johnneyh,
So sorry to hear about your problems.
I had a lot of problems obtaining eye medication but often found Asda pharmacy was helpful as they used a different supplier.
It may be worth asking your hospital pharmacy for a supply of drops or let your eye surgeon know about the lack of availability( maybe via the medical secretary) The consultant may then find a substitute medication for you if necessary.
Do hope things improve for you.
Best wishes
Thx for the reply i have tryed every thing possible the drops they told me to use at hospital is the only one available its called yellox and no one can get them not even the hospital pharmacy can get them its a nightmare all round the nhs is in a mess i cant get through to my gp has the phones are always engagedI give up
Yes, sadly I agree the NHS has many problems. It often seems a battle which takes so long to sort out.
Personally I find G.P's often know little about Glaucoma . So I always keep on asking the eye department, sometimes it is worth phoning several times until you get someone sympathetic who will listen.
Have you tried Glaucoma Uk Helpline 01233 64 81 70 ? I have found them extremely helpful.
Best wishes
Yes muddledme you are right gps dont seem to know much about glaucoma the trouble is i have glaucoma and macular odema at the same time the yellox drop is for odema and seems to be like gold dust to be honest im fed up of the all lot
Have you tried the R.N.I.B ? They may be able to advise you about Yellox drops.
I do know how disheartening it can be when little help is forth coming. I get angry but that just makes me more determined.
Have you got a good M.P ? Sometimes a good optician can also be helpful.Even the media ...Local radio or TV...have often helped me out with other things , amazing how quickly a response can come as no one wants poor publicity.
Once I kept on complaining (very sore stitches in eye) eventually I sat and waited for 4 hours in the emergency eye clinic and someone listened !
