I hope it has worked for you . I'm still undecided whether to have slt in a month-been on Monopost for a month now -my pressures were 25. I keep reading up and some articles say it can take a few weeks to come down after slt so may have to continue drops a while. There is much differing info and noone medically gives same answer twice so you do feel bit at sea. your result sounds promising but I'm a worrier esp re eyes so think I would try to speak to consultant .... via their secretary?? I agree you want reassurance -good luck.

Hi, Out of interest, I don't understand what you are worried about, it's just a standard procedure and you are taking drops anyway, so you will just carry on like normal ( people don't stop taking drops after SLT) so unless I'm missing something, it's always worth trying SLT?

I just worry re procedures cos if anything does go wrong youre stuck with it -I have had ongoing probs since bloomin covid 2nd jab so Ive become wary but also re palpitations re drops but will have to take the plunge one way or another. i have become very fearful since the bloomin covid jabs.

Hi Swanlady, I understand, the vaccine injury record statistics are shockingly high, and my stepdad also is one of the victims, so your lack of faith is understandable. As for SLT it's stated side effects and risks are minimal, but Trich is the expert here and has given some good advice below. Take care.

Thank you -most kind. It does appear slt is far cheaper than drops to provide by nhs so much more cost effective -i am now areal sceptic & trust nothing -not a comfortable way to be I'm afraid. Sorry bout your stepdad indeed.

I never had a choice

Hi frankthebank, just wanted to add, to the already helpful discussion, I actually haven’t had to use drops since SLT. I was lucky enough to have SLT very soon after my glaucoma diagnosis and the procedure reduced my IOP and it has remained low over a year later. No doubt I will have to use drops at some point but 🤞the SLT procedure has put that off for a while.

Obviously not everyone is the same but for me it was a highly effective procedure 😊

Hello, Not everyone likes the idea of laser, and are happy to carry on using eye drops. It is a personal choice, and if you are ok using drops and they are working well in controlling the eye pressure, then discuss this with your consultant. They may agree for you to carry on with the drops, or they may suggest SLT as a better option for you.

NICE guidelines changed in Jan 2023 to give the option of SLT as the 1st form if treatment for newly diagnosed, early stage glaucoma and suspected glaucoma. This was due to the light study research by Professor Gus Gazzard of Moorfields, which showed that with some patients, SLT can be just as successful in controlling eye pressure than eye drops, with less complications and side effects.

They won't know the true results until you have your 3 month check to allow everything to settle down. However it can only be a good thing that the pressures have come down and not the other way. Good luck

Hello, it sounds as though the SLT has been successful. They will monitor you to make sure the eye pressure stays stable. If it starts to creep up, they may ask you to go back on the drops, or may consider repeating the laser. As another forum member has mentioned, it can take around 3 months for the eye to completely settle after laser.

SLT normally lasts to 2-3 years, sometimes 5 but normally 2-3 years. It can be repeated up to 3 times, if the consultant feels it a viable option, especially if it was successful the first time.

Everyone with glaucoma is different so no one on this forum could really advise you what the next step will be. SLT can be repeated if the consultant feels it is a viable option for you, but I'm sure they will discuss your treatment and the options at your next appointment.

It is looking promising, I’d say . But agree only your consultant can say what target level of IOP is needed for your eyes. Some consultants think it works straight away others think it takes a few months to settle.

Apart from lowering IOP there are other benefits that have been discovered from SLT, such as if you have SLT in one eye sometimes it reduces the IOP in the non treated eye too. SLT is thought to help level out diurnal pressures spikes somehow too, which is useful if that’s a concern in your diagnosis.

Fingers crossed for you! 👍🏻
