SLT update

I went to the eye clinic today to find out if my second SLT had managed to lower my eye pressures. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked so I have been prescribed Latanoprost. There doesn’t seem to be much evidence that a second SLT will be effective if the first one wasn’t so although disappointed I was prepared. Nothing ventured nothing gained I guess.

So sorry Callie that it didn’t work for you either. Even sorrier that you’re struggling with the eye drops. Hope you’re going to feedback to the eye department. How long have you been trying them for? Werewolf doesn’t sound like a good look except for Hallowe’en! Here’s to a healthier New Year 😀

Hi BonnieMagic, I've been on lumigan for about 2 months now and I'm willing to put up with the side effects if it means my pressures go down.I await an appointment to find out if they have come down anymore. Last time it was 21 and 19(I think). Hope you doing ok on latanaprost.

Happy New year to you as well.

No doubt I will be back on the forum a lot this year!!!

Hi Callie, personally I think two months is long enough for side effects but 🤞they are doing their job. I haven’t got my latanoprost yet as prescription wasn’t ready and have to wait until GP surgery opens next week. I was told I’d be seen in 2-3 months to measure eye pressures.

Sorry to hear BonnieMagic that the second SLT wasn't a success for you. Fingers crossed the Latanoprost will lower your pressure x

Sorry to hear that BonnieMagic. Yes, SLT didn’t work for me either! 🙁I do hope drops work to bring your pressures down though. Drops are a bit of a pain, but as long as you are compliant and feedback to the hospital if you have any side effects, then many, many people muddle along quite merrily on them for years with very effective results. 👍🏻

Happy new year!

Thanks Beecalmed. I loved your comments about drops. Will start them next week once the GP surgery reopens! Just a matter of starting another routine. Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year

Thanks Annie. Fingers crossed I get on ok with Latanoprost - I didn’t have any luck requesting preservative free alternative as was told I had to try this one first! Your comment is very encouraging so much appreciated. Happy New Year

Hi Bonnie magic, sorry it was not a success... I had slt in march and continued taking monoprost (that is lantaprost preservative free), change to monoprost. I have another consultation in 10 days time. Last pressure 4 weeks ago was 19 & 18. Were you taking drops before you had slt. valfrance

Hi valfrance, no I haven’t been prescribed any drops until now. I think, as has been said before, they prefer to do SLT on ‘virgin’ eyes so to speak. My pressures are 22 and 20 so not too bad but haven’t changed since diagnosis or SLTs. I hope your next consultation goes well.

Hi BonnieMagic & a Happy New Year to you. I’ve been on Latanoprost since October. The genetic drops I’ve been getting are ‘xalaTAN’ which are preservative free.

I’ve had no side effects so far & IOPs down from 22 & 24 to 19 & 14, so consultant was happy.

My Mum’s severe Glaucoma has been managed for almost 25 years & she still has her vision, though hasn’t driven for years.

She’s had lots of drops, numerous ops, including Trabeculectomy in both eyes.

She is my reason to be positive that this disease can be managed.

Hi BonnieMagic sorry to hear about your SLT, I was booked in for one then at the appointment they changed it for emergency cataract ops on both eyes. I’ve been on preservative free Latanoprost for years! Fortunately they agree with my eyes, I always insist on preservative free as I do suffer quite serious side effects. So do let the hospital know don’t put up with any side effects for too long, there are other drops to try.

Here’s to Happy and Healthy New Year xx

I am on lanoprost and timol . Lanoprost alone got me down from 33 to 24 and the addition timol seems to have got me down to between 18-20 . One drop a night and after 9 months no side affects so far. Much less headaches. Hope you get the same positive results Sx

SLT didn't work for me either.

I have been on a lot of different eye drops over 25 years. I have to have preservative free. Cosopt was by far the worst for reactions, severe contact dermatitis at the start of the pandemic, couldn't get them changed as no clinics (caused by the Dorzalamide). Occasionally the drops cannot be sourced preservative free and on those times I used HyLo moisturising drops on prescription which helped.

My eyesight has taken a sudden dive downwards over the last year.

I've had a presserflo shunt in one eye and a trab in the other. But have had many problems and still on a lot of drops, over 20 a day and visiting the eye clinic on an almost weekly basis.

I read that Latanapost was about the safest eyedrop there is.
