Hi Colin After I had a stent last year my eye was very uncomfortable. They couldn't work out why.

I had trabeculectomy this year same eye and by miracle the eye discomfort went away. I asked ophthalmologist if that was due to the steroids drops which I was still using. He said we'll see how things are after I have stopped the steroids. If the discomfort returns he suggested that maybe he will advise daily steroid drops.

So I'm assuming from this that sometimes people might be advised to use steroids daily. But whatever happens please follow the advice of the ophthalmologist and use the steroids as prescribed.

Post trab there was quite a strict protocol to follow to wean me off them.

All the best

I suppose that if the steroid drops are reducing inflammation and keeping you comfortable then it's worth continuing with them. From my experience the discomfort can really reduce quality of life.

Wish you all the best with it all.

I had a lot of eye inflammation after a Presserflo op and was on steroid for about 6 months. The inner corner of my eye was unbearably itchy as well. Eventually the consultant prescribed Ikervis drops (I think this is a mild immunosupressant). I was on this for 6 months and it cleared up the problem completely. It was one drop every evening.

Glad to hear the problem went away after the correct medical treatment.

Thank you for your input, hopefully my ophthalmologists can figure something out soon.

I wish you all the best as well. It is hard to put up with sore eyes long term.

I notice that Longwalks3 mentioned Softacort. I was on that for a while as well as Dexafree. Also various moisturising ointment to use at night and Hyloforte as well. However it was only the ikervis that made the difference for me. I hope that you get relief soon.

I have inflammatory dry eye following multiple eye operations for glaucoma and about 18 years of glaucoma eye drops. I use ikervis morning and night and a lipid replacement drop called Evotears 4 times a day. I also use Thealoz duo dry eye drops as needed..I was using a very mild steroid drop called Softacort but have been advised by my corneal specialist to wean off this as it is a steroid. However, I have been told by my glaucoma consultant that it is possible to use softacort long term if necessary so it might be worth asking about this if your symptoms continue.

Wow sounds like you’ve been through a lot yourself!

Thank you, I have saved this in my notes and will present it to my ophthalmologist for my next check up on Wednesday!

Thank you for your help! I wish you all the best!
