recent diagnosis in right eye

I have recently been diagnosed with glaucoma and am worried that the drop doesn't stay in my eye despite holding it closed as my face is wet. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you

Hello Delph1

Its important to find a comfortable position when you put your drops in. We normally recommend sitting on a chair/settee. Other people stand in front of a mirror,or prefer lying on the bed. Just choose the best option for you.

Looking up at the ceiling, pull down your lower lid to form a pocket, and pop the drop into it.

Never put a drop close to the tear duct, as this will cause more drops to get into the back of the throat and into the bloodstream, encouraging side effects.

Close your eyes and press gently on the tearduct. You can sit up while doing this, and only have to do this for 1-2 minutes. Times can vary, so check the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with the drops.

The drops you feel running down you cheek will be the excess drops, so just wipe them away with a clean tissue. If you have been asked to put the drop in the other eye as a preventative, just repeat it.

We have produced a booket which may help you as well. I have attached the link for you.

That’s helpful, Trish. Thank you. How immediate must one be with the step “Press gently on the corner of your eye, between your eye and nose, for 1-2 minutes”? I have been taking the time to close up the bottle and walk from the bathroom to the bedroom before sitting still with my eyes closed.

It should be done straight after you put your drop in.
