Hi this is the second time my mum has had closed angle glaucoma. She’s been on a lot of eye drops but is now down to just pilocarpine four times a day. The problem she has is that they sting and burn uncontrollably. She’s tried the preservative free ones and is also taking dry eye drops. The specialist hasn’t really given her any useful advice. Has anyone else has this trouble?

Eye Drops
I have found my consultant hopeless on advice but the low vision clinic extremely helpful. Find out about your Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO)…all health authorities shoukd have one and there will be leaflets in the hospital…and phone and ask. It has made a HUGE difference to my confidence speaking to mainly female optometrists etc. Good luck
Thanks I’ll look into that
Diagnosed with severe painful bleparitis my consultant prescribed bathing eyelids with cooled boiled water, then cleaning with bleparclean wipes and a tiny smear of doublebase gel, persevering this helping the sore stinging eyelids. A warm flannel or a wheat bag across the eyes helps dry eyes.
Hello Glos35.
Putting in a preservative free dry eye drops 20 minutes before the Pilocarpine, may help tot sooth the eye so it doesnt sting as much.
Has your mother ever received laser or offers of surgery.
A patient should only be tried up to 3-4 different drops and if none work for whatever reason, whether it be side effects or not working as well as hoped, their consultant has to look at other options such as Laser or surgery.
