3 months Nicotinamide treament.

Just over 3 months since I started taking daily 500mg Nicotinamide (B3) capsules.(Health 4All purest B3 Nicotinamide, with no additives) About £7-£8 for 90 caps.

This week I had my blood cholesterol checked . It has been raised for over 30 years but I have been unable to take Statins.

12 months ago it was 7.7 despite a Mediteranean type diet and a low BMI etc.

Now it has dropped to 5.2, the lowest ever and considered normal for my age and health. I knew that Vit B3 lowered cholesterol but was delighted to see the large drop. I believe that high cholesterol is a risk factor for eye health, so maybe this is a way that this treatment helps Glaucoma ????

Apparently patients on Statins should never suddenly stop them, but luckily I never started. No side effects with the B3, so I shall continue .

Has anyone else noticed this effect ?

Best wishes

Hello, I have read about the trials for this and am interested in giving it a go. Do you take 3 tablets a day 1500mg?Have you had your eye pressure checked and if so are they now lower?

Regards

Hello Quantam,

I think the suggested dose is about 1000mg but as I am 8 stone ,and frequently have had allergies to medicine ,I have been taking 500gm once a day.

This week I attended a virtual eye O.P.D clinic and my pressures were 15 and 12 , about the same as normal for me as I have had two Preserflo shunts. The results of all the eye tests do not get seen and reported by the consultant for up to 10 weeks( in Somerset)

I have not noticed much change in my sight, maybe I should be brave and increase the dose ?

Also considering Co Enzyme Q 10 which my optitian suggested was possibly helpful, but I wanted to give B3 a good trial first, otherwise it may be difficult to monitor any changes. I am only taking lubricants for dry eyes otherwise.

Perhaps you could ask your optitian or specialist about B3, I started when I heard one of the consultants on a Glaucoma UK webinar say that if he had Glaucoma he would take this supplement.

Good luck

That’s great news! 👍🏻 Hope that continues for you. I must start taking B3 then! However, last time I checked I had low to normal cholesterol so would it reduce mine further? Can your cholesterol be too low I wonder? 🤔

An interesting question! a very low cholesterol can apparently RARELY be a poor sign, but not sure about adding cholesterol lowering drugs to lower a normal or low reading. May be good to get an up to date cholesterol with the HDL and LDL levels (to indicate the different types of cholesterol, usualy best with a fasting blood test ) so that you know exactly what it is now.

Perhaps it would be worth asking your G.P before embarking on B3.

Best wishes

That’s good to hear , glad you’ve had success from it x

I've started taking this supplement too about a month ago, I've only been taking 500mg as I was wary about taking a larger dose but I may increase it to 1000mg. I have an opticians appointment tomorrow so I will ask her advice. I have never had my cholesterol checked so I can't comment on any change. That's great that it's lowered yours, an added bonus.

I am not a big taker of supplements as I do prefer to try and get my nutrients from my diet but when it comes to glaucoma I am happy to try anything. I also take flaxseed capsules as it's good for eye health.

Hi all.

I'm definitely not saying don't take vitamin B3 but please check with your eye specialist and GP first as Muddledme has mentioned. Then if all okay, I wish you all good results!
