Gardening after trab surgery

Good afternoon to everyone, would anyone happen to know how long after having trab surgery can you start gardening,

I was told no bending forwards or lifting heavy things for a couple of weeks 'at least '. And no strenuous exercise for at least a month. So no digging etc. It probably depends on how your eyes are healing. Are you still having regular frequent follow up appointments ? If so then I would ask at the clinic. It's better to be safe. They'll be able to advise according to your progress.

Thank you stairs10 it’s coming up to 6 weeks but still having regular checkups so I’ll ask next week when I see my consultant. I’m just eager to get back into the garden particularly as the weather has been nice with us. Better to be sure though. Many thanks

yes i totally understand. i saw my allotment plot today for the first time in a few weeks and the weeds are taking over. but there's nothing i can do about it as i am only 2 weeks post surgery. i just walked over, looked and walked away.last year post surgery once i got the 'ok' i bought a low stool to sit on while weeding to try to reduce some of the risks from bending.

Hi Odta, the same as Stairs10, I was told 4 weeks but tbh I erred on the side of caution and waited 6 weeks. I was off all drops by 4 weeks but was taking no chances. As you are still getting regular check ups I agree it's best to discuss it with your consultant . Good luck with your next appointment and hopefully you will get the go ahead

With me it was exercising I was desperate to get back into !!!😄 You will get there, just a wee bit more patience ( says me who has no patience )

Hello Odta,

I had a shunt implant in March last year and remember thinking that there should be a law against having an op in spring for keen gardeners !. However I grew some micro greens indoors ...very easy , quick and delicious especially pea shoots. They grow well on a window sill.

I also found a low stool very useful, BUT I did have to be very careful as once out in the garden it is so easy to forget and get carried away with other less suitable tasks.

When you can get going again it makes everything seem even more enjoyable .
