Update on my partner's operation. He's doing OK and at last check up appointment had his drops reduced and now waiting two weeks in between appointments, instead of one. The only 'negative' was the surgeon suggesting he might be healing too fast. His pressure was at 15 (was 6 after surgery, 3 the next day, 8 the next week). Yesterday he started experiencing pain in his eye and saying this feels like pressure again. His appointment is on the 14th so ten days away. I'm trying to push him to call the A&E for a virtual consultation, but he's stubborn. How hard should I push? What concerns might there be? Is this usual, and what can be done about it? Thanks!

Eye pain/pressure after aqueous shunt implantation
Having also had an aqueous shunt just over a month ago, I was advised that I should let someone at the hospital know if I was worried about symptoms. I had eye pain and headaches twice in the first week or two , each time I phoned and explained the problem to an eye Doctor on call at the weekend . The Doctors were very helpful and happy to examine my eye , luckily everything appeared O.K. I was given advice and was very relieved.
Things seem to have settled now and I feel better, as I had been very tired after the op.
One thing I would stress is to make sure the correct drops go into the correct eye.
Having had years of putting the same drops in both eyes, I did find it hard to concentrate and not muddle them up. So I have a soft eye pad that I wear at night to cover the operated eye temporarily until the drops are instilled in the non operated eye. This works for me.
Please phone and ask , I think you will find the Doctors hepful. Good Luck.
My reply is to all of Glaucoma readers, how helpful it would be to be able to know our own IOP on a daily basis. I am searching and comparing the home tonometers and I like this one most Diaton. You don't need drops to deaden the eye as the measurement is on the eye lid. I talked to the CEO of company and he says he doubts I could learn to use it on myself as you need someone to use for correct position of machine, but I like no tip to replace no sterilization issues etc. All of them are expensive but so are my Meds and other factors. I don't always feel I can trust the readings of IOP in the office and I want to know how good my drops work daily. Check it out Diaton.com if interested, thanks eyessong in Texas
