Hi. I was diagnosed with high pressure in both eyes about 8 years ago (aged 52). I was seen by ophthalmic team at local hospital but told I was OK (just high pressure). Went again in Jan this year after routine eye test again flagged up high pressure (27 in both eyes). This time I was told I have primary open angle glaucoma. Was also told I have some loss of vision in left eye. I went onto drops immediately and have just had laser treatment (trabeculoplasty). Laser was fine. Done in 15 mins during outpatients visit (put back 6 months due to covid). Eyes were sore for a day. Laser has reduced pressure in both eyes (now 20 and 10). So back on drops for one eye. However, even though laser has only partially worked for me I would recommend it.

Hello Stepcali. There are different forms of laser. If your husband has narrow angles which tends to be more commonly associated with people who are longsighted it will be called an iridotomy where there they make a small hole at the top of the iris just under the eyelid to make extra drainage to help reduce the eye pressure. The other laser which is often used is called SLT (selective laser trabeculoplasty). This is a more gentle laser and tends to be used on people who have open angles. It selects areas in the drainage system of the eye and opens/adds more drainage to help bring the eye pressure down.

Hi, I had SLT in both eyes (not at the same time) it’s effects have only lasted two years for me, it is painless and nothing to get too anxious about. I found it ok for me, in fact I came out thinking I’d got myself very worked up before and was surprised it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Make sure you administer drops after with vigilance. Good Luck

Hi, yes i had laser on both eyes about 8 years ago. Basically the laser puts wholes in your eyeballs to release pressure. Very uncomfortable but he get through it. Tell him not to worry
