Recent Narrow Angle Diagnosis.

Hi.

Last year I was put on Amlodopine and Indapamide, after a few days in hospital with malignant hypertension.

I had an Opticians appointment 3 weeks ago, and was diagnosed with narrow angle in my right eye, for which I have been referred to a specialist.

I read that Amitriptyline (which I take for neck spondylosis),could make this worse, so I have reduced to dosage to 50mg from 75, on the advice of my doctor.

I also read that Collagen supplements can effect this condition, but can’t seem to get any conclusive answers from anyone, so have stopped my bovine collagen, which I’d been taking for 4 months.

Does anyone know if these supplements are helpful or detrimental to this condition ?

Many Thanks 😊.

Hi CoconutBay

I haven't replied before now as I hadn't come across a question about narrow angles and bovine collagen before. I asked the question to two ophthalmologists who both said that they have not heard of and cannot imagine why there would be any link between oral collagen supplements and narrow angles.

The Amitriptyline as you are aware can affect the angle to become narrower or closed. It is important to let your eye doctor know, that you are taking this medication. Sometimes laser treatment can help with the drainage of the fluid inside your eye and enable you to continue with the Amitriptyline a bit more confidently.

I hope this has been of some help to you.

Many Thanks for your reply.

I’ve been unable to see my GP, but he has phoned me and agreed for me to drop my Amitriptyline from 75 to 50mg, so hopefully that will help/ stop the condition from worsening.

Still waiting on the hospital referral .

It’s very comforting to know that the Collagen wouldn’t affect the condition, as when I was on it, it helped other health conditions , so I will probably resume taking it

Best Wishes, Karyl 😊
