Narrow Angle Glaucoma

Hello,

I was diagnosed with narrow angle vision and warned about developing glaucoma last year. Recently my eyes have started really hurting so I booked an eye test at boots opticians and my eye pressure was measured at 20 in one eye and 18 in the other.

The lady who performed the examination referred me to a consultant but this was two months ago and I have not heard anything since. I have a family history of glaucoma and I'm worried that in the wake of the Covid delays I will be left to go blind. Is there a way to be seen by a consultant privately so that I can be prescribed some drops or receive some sort of care, please?

Thank you

Ring the Emergency Eye Clinic at your local hospital - they will advise you and if necessary will give you an appointment to be seen within a few days.

Hello Eselore,

Normally it can take 2-3 months to see a consultant. If this is what you have been advised your optometrist didn't feel it necessary put you through as an urgent referral. Your eye pressures are well within the normal range which are between 8mmhg and 24mmhg.

There are warning signs for people with narrow angles to look out for. If you see halos around lights, feel nauseous or have a headache similar to a bad migraine you need to act upon it and visit the A & E as soon as they can to check the eye pressure.

If you wish to see a consultant privately you can do a search for private eye clinics in your area or if you are thinking of a particular eye hospital do a search for private clinics within the hospital you are thinking of.

Thank you very much for your reply, I do get worried when my eyeball feels so painful and I don't know what to do. Your kindness is much appreciated.

Hello from Thailand Eselore,

Don't panic,I have been in this situation and much worse.

Are you putting any eye drops in your eyes to control your eye pressure?

Do you know the measurement of your Narrow Angle?

As advised to you here you must see a Glaucoma specialist to catch this situation early on as it is now and must be controlled! Normally the route will be Laser Iridotomy (not painful and nothing to be stressed about at all). Let us know how you get on! Please learn more about this and it will be easier to cope with this and make it a friendly part of life!don't scare or worry yourself about blindness and things like such.....good luck ! About your eyeballs hurting, this has nothing to do with the inner workings of the eyes, gently massage your eye brows, circle around the eyes, your sinuses too.
