Hi, l had laser treatment on both eyes today which was pretty straightforward. Just wondering how effective or successfull this is. The consultant seems to think l would still need to use drops but l have heard that some people don't need drops after SLT, any advice?

Hi Ben. SLT laser treatment is about 78% successful and can last between 2-5 years. It can also be repeated after that time. It can take up to 8 weeks for the pressure to reduce to a satisfactory measurement. So it may be a little while until you know whether or not you need to continue with your eye drops. Glaucoma can react differently in people and react differently to treatment as well. That's why some people need to continue with drops, whereas others don't.
Hi Helen, thanks for the information. I wasn't told an awful lot about things , probably user than usual due to catching up with cancelled appointments. The consultant. Said l could go back to work next day but l was wondering about other things such as jogging and exercise in general. I really don't feel any change in vision or any discomfort.
Hi Ben. It is quite likely that you can resume your exercise but it wouldn't hurt to check with your consultant. Call the eye secretary at the hospital to check with your eye doctor that they think this is okay. It is advised that if you have glaucoma it is best to avoid things like, heavy weight lifting and exercises where your head is lower than your heart for a certain length of time.
Glad your laser went well .
