Corticoteroids over use for rash leading to fungal infection

Has anyone experienced Majocci;s granuloma? It is a severe case of ringworm caused by fungus dermatophytes. I had an allergic reaction leading to a rash over my legs and my hand. Three different doctors kept giving me corticosteroids to use which lead to suppression of local immune system where the rashes were leading to the fungal infection and the severe case of ring worm. Doctor at first suggested taking Terbinafine 250 mg once a day for 4 weeks along with Naftifine cream which didn't clear the infection. Now she wants me to take the Terbinafine for another 8-12 weeks along with Naftifine cream. The Terbinafine causes liver toxicity after 6 weeks and that worries me. Has anyone experienced using this medication for a prolonged period? is anyone aware of more effective treatment for this type of fungal infection?

Fungal infections of the skin can take some time to clear up and you are quite right that some signs of liver toxicity can occur with prolonged treatment but this is usually quite uncommon with 90-99% of people having no such symptom.

If you are concerned at anything your doctor can monitor toxicity using a simple blood test.

Hi, Are you aware of a more aggressive treatment? I have been back on Terbinafine for almost two weeks now, but a rash which is possibly the infection seems to be growing to other parts of my body and that worries me. My doctor seems to be too busy to care.
