Eight years ago on November 4, 2008 Barack Obama was elected President for the first time. I remember this for two reasons.

1. It was the day I changed the address on my drivers license. I moved a few years before but never changed the address on my license, and I did not want to cause any issues when I voted that day. So I changed my address on my license that day.

2. The next day, November 5, was the date of my "partial nephrectomy". That is what they call removing part of a kidney. In my case, I was having part of my left kidney removed because my doctors discovered cancer there.

This is when my dance with "The Beast" began. I thought I only needed to survive an operation and never have to worry about it again. No chemotherapy, no radiation, just an operation to become cancer free.

Anyway, this is what happened this day and the day after, eight years ago. I was never sure if I would still be here to find out who came after President Obama. Me, you and the rest of the world will find out who comes next in less than a week.

But just think about where you were 8 years ago, and now you know where I was, and what I was doing. I probably would have rather been doing whatever it was YOU were doing.

But I digress.....
