Idiopathic neuropathy and bad cramps

I have been getting really bad cramping in my calves and feet for the past couple of months. Could this be down to the neuropathy? It can strike at any time of the day and for no apparent reason.

Is there anything that is good for relieving cramping?

I have idiopathic pn too and get cramp in my calves, feet and sometimes thighs (particularly agonising) but usually at night. Magnesium oil spray or cream sometimes helps, and I take a magnesium supplement when I remember.

Thanks, I did try the magnesium spray but it didn't help. Have also taken magnesium supplements, but again no joy.

I have small fiber neuropathy and I too have cramps off and on in my calf and thigh and I take magnesium everyday as well as B-Complex ... It just keeps getting better! Agh

I used to get awful charley horses, but they lessoned once I started drinking more water everyday and took supplements. I also have neuropathy but the charley horses were way before my diagnosis.

What supplements do you take?

I take supplements for nerve pain, CoQ10, L-Carnitine, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Magnesium, B2 and B12. I think that and the water helped.

I too get cramps really badly mostly at night. Doctor have me quinine which is the same thing in tonic water. I take magnesium and electrolyte complex tablets and they help with the cramps. Also try a warm bath with Epsom salts before bed. Hope this helps and you get some relief soon.

Thanks for your reply. I do sometimes have tonic water and take magnesium, but probably not regularly enough. I just can't understand why the neuropathy is so much worse at night when I am relaxed in bed.

I know, it's so annoying! Sometimes it happens to me at night when I've walked too much, sometimes it happens when I haven't done anything that day. You can't win. I've found sometimes it's a side effect of some medications that makes it happen. I've found Pregabalin quite good for my legs at night but it doesn't work for everyone. It's a trial and error type of thing I'm afraid. Good luck 🤞

Thank you. It is a very strange thing to suffer from isn't it, in that it varies from day to day.
