Idiopathic Neuropathy getting worse

Is it just me or does the hot weather make it worse?

The cramping in my feet and legs is really bad at night.

Also, I find walking around with bare feet feels very strange, whereas I thought it would be an improvement.

All in all I think that cool weather makes this awful condition more tolerable.

If only they could say what has caused this, I could try and stop doing whatever it is.

Weather definitely changes symptoms/conditions, sometimes for the better (eg Depression/SAD) but mostly for the worse.

Try to keep cool. Get a fan or try cold flannels/towels on affected areas.

Are you taking Magnesium ? A spray by Better You may help the affected areas.

Thanks for replying.

I have taken magnesium supplements for the past few years to see if it would help - have tried the MegaMag ionic liquid, tablets and spray oil - but it hasn't made any difference. Have also tried B12 supplements (sublingual methylcolbamin), but again that didn't really improve it.

Am wondering if there are any helpful items within the above link. I follow Suzy Cohen and receive her Newsletters - very informative ! Hope you soon find some answers soon :-)

Maybe B12 injections would be better for you ...

Hi Twitchen I'm the same. Been discharged for neuropathy specialist as can't find the cause. And it's getting worse, has spread up to my knees and arms now. I also have an underactive thyroid so have been googling as much as possible to find a cause. Come across the celiac society which says gluten can cause neuropathy, so have been trying for a while now as this is recommended for thyroid too. So worth a try. Has anyone else heard of this.

Hi, isn't it just so frustrating?

I also have underactive thyroid (diagnosed about 11 years ago) and Lichen Sclerosus, which is thought to be another autoimmune disease that can be triggered by underactive thyroid.

Have tried so many supplements etc but nothing seems to stop it. I do take two fish oil capsules a day, which I read can be beneficial.

Consultant told me to keep going for walks as exercise can help, which is true.

Sounds so similar. I've always taken multivitamins but have started B12 sublingual to see if that helps but haven't been taking it very long. Staying gluten free is so difficult too, think I'm doing well then discover there's gluten in say soy sauce I've just had 😔. I also exercise a lot so will keep it up as long as I can. Hope you find something that helps. Good luck Twitchen x

Have you heard about gluten protein being very similar to the thyroid so that's why our ammune system attacks the gut. I read on the celiac society site that this attack on gluten can affect neuropathy. Worth a try. X

I'm trying B12 (sublingual methylcolbamin) too. Not sure yet if it is making any difference. I have heard of gluten causing it, but have been tested for celiac and proved negative so haven't tried cutting it out. Other than that, exercise (walking and yoga) and magnesium for cramp, evening primrose oil and ALA, but don't know if any of it helps.
