The last couple of days have been particularly trying. I spent most of yesterday in bed & it seems like today is going to be the same. All this laying about is just not me. I've got a million thing's to do in the garden, but I was flat out just feeding the cat's. I'm sorry about the whinging. Mostly I try to be positive, but when I feel like this, it's a little harder.

Bad day
Hi,
You are not whining, you are reaching out because FND is lousy. I've been in the same boat since an infection in January - hand on heart I can be found telling my husband "Board now, turn it off, I'm not playing". FND does happen to people who do too much and it can be annoying when we can't do anything other than to make sure we get to the toilet and back without someone following behind with a mop.
Some cat owners begin to wonder if our cats are stealing our blood in the night to pay for their kitty porn addiction - sense of humour and purr therapy help me.
You have to remember to pace. You can't battle in the usual manner. We have a saying in our house - your underpants go on under your clothes, you are not a superhero. When we run out of spoons we go for the knives, so be careful. It will affect your mood too. Please seek help if you feel like it's getting you down. It's neuro-chemical changes in your brain, not a weakness of character.
It may be that you've done too much, it may be that you are brewing an infection, it may even be something you've eaten or drank. Try a low histamine diet, maybe start on a low dose of P5P a form of vitamin b6 that is the co-enzyme to glutamine synthase that is going to help clear away the glutamate that builds up in areas of the FND brain - start low and slowly build up. Look up any other illnesses that you have and see what supplements help them. It may help your FND too, or just make one area of your life a little easier.
Sorry if you know all this already:
Things that make glutamate build up -
Over exertion - doing too much physical activity, even working out complex problems.
Time - builds up through the day, so evenings are worse
Infections/ allergies/ injuries - they cause the release of interleukins that cause "sickness behaviour", histamine alone is a neurotransmitter and a neuro-modulator that releases acetylcholine and glutamate is co-released with it.
Poor sleep - glutamate reduces in our sleep. Part of this may be because we don't produce histamine in our sleep.
Auto immune disorders - ie. arthritis, thyroiditis, pernicious anaemia etc.
Psychological distress - triggers sickness behaviour - in every human not just people with FND.
This is not a complete list of things that can affect glutamate. Glutamate may not be the only cause of symptoms. The disfunction happens where unconscious and conscious activity interface so conscious fighting by putting in more effort may make your FND worse long term (I found that out the hard way). It's cruel and cunning and it's ok to ask for help.
Take care, you are not alone. x
Thanks so much for the kind words & the information. I'm sorry for the lateness of my reply, I've been having a harder time than usual lately. I struggled understanding all of the info so I got my sister to check it out & it made sense to her. We're going to hit my doctor up for a blood test to my glutamate levels. I'm also trying to pace myself which is hard because usually I do everything at a million miles an hour. I'm realising I need a complete mindset change.
You are expressing how you are feeling, that’s a good thing. We understand the need to do that and that’s what this site is for.
It’s ok to rest as much as you need to, there are no rules. It’s frustrating not to be doing all of the things you want to right now but your body is telling you to rest. Everything else can wait until you are feeling better.
Hello Gypsy ... sorry to hear you are laid up. I don't know if you have followed up the post by 210272 which has a link to physio for FMD, and even includes the workbook that is used at St George's hosp in London, which is the home of the English FND guru Prof Edwards and neuro physio Nielsen. It is very informative and detailed and I have found it helpful ..it does not focus on specific exercises, it goes into mindset too.
Fingers crossed for a better day tomorrow.
I'm a great believer in Manyana, tomorrow, guess what sometimes tomorrow never comes. Thats ok too. I also give myself time out, I have meals in freezer for my bad days, so we still eat healthy. Don't be shy about saying no, not today. In time the family will understand. Find a quiet place outside if you can, or even a go to place in your imagination that makes you happy. Mine is a quiet stream or even a fly by of Grand canyon. Lol. Both imagined. Hope today is a good day for you. Take care. Moni
