I have read a lot of it (and skim read other bits) and I can see it seems effective and addresses reducing catastrophising rather than avoidance/distraction techniques.

I still have more to read but doesn't seem to go into more detail but it makes me think about a success story I watched "David Story" and think its to do with addressing your fears "ie what you think could happen".

Definition:

Catastrophizing is a cognitive distortion that prompts people to jump to the worst possible conclusion, usually with very limited information or objective reason to despair. When a situation is upsetting, but not necessarily catastrophic, they still feel like they are in the midst of a crisis.

So that means they may discuss, why someone came to that conclusion and possibly reinforce the unlikeliness that will happen but again subjective and not advisable for a trauma sufferer to unpack without professional guidance.
