If have moth FND & FM and have had some strange things going on , does anyone have strange vision. I see eye floaters all day when my eyes are open and when I close my eyes but this has also developed into what I can only describe as black and white static vision. I’ve have issues with my eyelids not automatically opening too. Migraines are most likely linked but not the reason I don’t think . It’s bizarre

Hi there, I too have eye floaters, but not constantly. I have had my vision go black and white (was quite frightening) made me sleep for hours after. Headaches intermittent, but I have had them last for many weeks at a time.
Yes, I have these visual symptoms. I was misdiagnosed with FND. Two and a half years later, I was diagnosed with hemiplegic and vestibular migraines (pain doesn't always coincide with my symptoms).
I get them so often (almost every day now) that I have visual disturbances all the time.
I'm not sure what your symptoms are, but make sure they are not caused by migraine.
I have these symptoms too and sometimes lose vision completely, usually in my left eye but sometimes in my right. My overall vision in both eyes has deteriorated considerably since the initial episode in 2019. Part of the visual disturbance has been labelled 'Visual Snow' by my optician. All tests carried out in relation to my sight by my neurologist were inconclusive. I continue to have very severe migraine, constant visual disturbance and visual deficiency.
I would have replied to you earlier but there are many days when I cannot see well enough to be able to type. I am very sorry to hear of your symptoms. They are not easy to deal with. I wish you all the best and hope that knowing that others with FND do also have these symptoms might be of some help to you.
I have had multiple eye symptoms I have had floaters, hypersensitive to light, face blindness, ocular migraines, tunnel vision, pain, tracking and focus issues with a psychedelic light show of blobs of changing shapes and colours when I close my eyes and try and get some sleep. The symptoms have happened a couple of times or have been ongoing and fluctuate in intensity. They have improved gradually over time.
I have them and the optician said they come with age, my granddaughter hates spiders and I tell her hey you I have a familiar of spiders living in my eyes and she just looks in disbelief before saying gran don’t tell me anymore because that actually means they are doing the toilet in your eyes ha ha ha ha on a more serious note my optician has said if they get too much they can be removed by surgery
As others have mentioned your visual symptoms could be due to migraine and/or visual snow syndrome so if you haven't had a thorough assessment for both, I'd ask your GP for a referral asap. I realise you don't think migraine is the reason but there is still a lot we don't know about it so I think it's worth checking, just for peace of mind, if nothing else.
Thank you all so much for all the suggestions and support. I’m off to the optician hopefully next week. I think I’ll go to my Gp re my migraine if nothing comes back from optician.
Hi Looby, the eyes are full of major nerves. Migraine/Aura-Migraines/Cluster Headaches... they occur frequently when the nervous system has gone wrong. I really feel for you, it must be terribly frightening, eyes open or closed or stuck shut inbetween. I don't know if the GP will offer much help other than a migraine relief but you must tell them what's happening to you. Somewhere it could all add up to a more defined diagnosis than Functional Disorder. It sounds like you need an MRI of the Brain, I've had two they are not to be afraid of. Please push for the help that you need. I hope that you have someone caring in your life with you.
I am diagnosed with FND and have vision problems. I went back to my eye doctor to have my glasses and prescription checked. As I’m typing this my right eye is not working right. My prescription is fine, the FND doesn’t play nice. I told my doctor I remember having this problem in high school, 50 plus years before my diagnosis.
Yup based on my experience many somatic symptoms can arise from FND. However it is always a good idea to get checked out by an eye doctor. There could be a lot of reasons why you experience vision issues.
If your eye doctor does the examination and all the tissues and parts look good and you are diagnosed with FND, then most likely it can be just a symptom of the FND. From my experience and understanding, electrical signals can get crossed and chaotic with FND so nerves don't exactly work properly so all kinds of weird symptoms can occur . I did have some vision issues and bizare ones at times so completely understandable why one would feel like something major going on with the brain and body. Funny it can be a visious circle. Anxiety can cause more chaotic energy in the brain which drives the FND symptoms and what drives the anxiety is the emotional response to what you percieve as going on at the time of the sudden and disturbing symptom. Most people respond just like you do to symptoms that knowone seems to explain why they occur so we at patients try to come up with an explanation ourselves, but unfortunately we tend to start thinking about the worst case scenario what is causing things.
