Abnormal spine MRI

Has anyone had an abnormal MRI after their doctor told them their symptoms were all functional? I had an MRI with and w/o contrast on my spine and it said diffused cord signal abnormalmality (something like that) The neurologist (which my regular doctor didn't think I needed) said this is an uncommon finding and she has to confer with colleagues on next steps. I hope to get to the bottom of this (& that it is something manageable) but wondering if anyone else has had this type of MRI finding and what you found out.
