BACLOFEN

Has anyone had a bad reaction to Baclofen. It caused me to put on a lot of weight (3 stone). If you have can you please tell me about it. If, like me, you have put on weight what action have you taken to get it off? Your replies would be greatly appreciated. Emily

Hey Emily,

I’m sorry to hear about your trouble with Baclofen.

I’ve been on high dose Baclofen for a decade. I’m a little plumper than what I was. I figure it’s my lifestyle more than the Baclofen. But hey, maybe it’s the Baclofen.

Do you have a PM&R doctor? I see mine a couple times a year. He follows the Baclofen and guides care. Maybe a PM&R doctor could help with this? If Baclofen still helps your muscle function, maybe they’d have a solution to minimize the weight side effect short of stopping it.

Hope it all works out, Emily. Fingers crossed for relaxed muscles and the weight that makes you feel great.

Many thanks for your reply. I see a Neurologist but he is also baffled by all the weight I have put on. Can you tell me what a PM & R doctor is please.

I’m in the US. So, this might not apply depending on where you are.

A Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation doctor (PM&R) oversees my rehab care/treatments. I see a neurologist as well. They handle diagnosis, symptom concerns, etc. The PM&R doctor and neurologist work together.

Maybe it’s worth asking your neurologist if adding a PM&R doctor to your care team could help things? Hope this helps.

i just wanted to say thank you for your question. I have all these crazy symptoms with this new FND diagnosis but i questioned if my jaw locking in place or becoming so stiff i cant chew was a part of this or not. i also keep biting my own mouth. this is so annoying and causes so many canker sores. but I was given baclofen and it seriously seems to help. suppose i have put on a few pounds already but i imagine its cause with the med i can actually open my mouth to eat again.

Hi Emily,

I have had lots of different medications make me put on weight but I haven't found Baclofen to be one of them. I think the change to lifestyle activity levels were responsible for my issues largely. Are you taking other meds as well? Perhaps there is another more likely culprit.
