Conversion syndrome
Rob186 - Please call a medical professional for information about this. Loss of memory and spatial awareness may be symptoms of a stroke and if that's the case the sooner your wife is treated, the better her chances are of getting these faculties back.
I agree you need medical advice, some epileptics have memory problems while they wait for their brains to settle.
We got medical advise it is part of the conversion syndrome, doctor suggested TMS, let's hope for the best
It happens to me, and sometimes I'm partially paralyzed. I was diagnosed with conversion disorder in11/2019. I was in ICU and tested for TMS with no findings. It takes time to recover from the effects of these strong non-epileptic absence seizures. At times it can takeover 24 hours to regain my memory and physical movement. 100MG of Lamotrigine helps me manage my NES, but not completely. Exhaustion is a trigger for me. I also "freeze" when I change surfaces while walking. If I walk from a room with carpet into a room with tile the change in surface makes my body freeze and sometimes it triggers a seizure. There aren't many doctors in my area who understand FND/Conversion Disorder, and it's often difficult to describe the symptoms associated. Please be patient with your partner and encourage her to be patient with herself. She will find ways to manage her symptoms as they change.
I'm scared she will never be back herself again, she all the symptoms, no leg movement, psychosis, memory loss, episodes of unresponsiveness. I hope TMS work, cos i'm lost.
Psychosis isn't thought to be a symptom of FND/Conversion disorder so I really question this diagnosis for her.
Hiya Rob, so sorry to hear this it's unfortunately and understandable distressing time for you both.
I don't know anything about conversion syndrome but i do have a daughter who has epilepsy, the confusion about where she was or who she was is very common with epilepsy seizures, that said the seizures between your partner's condition and epilepsy are obviously caused by different conditions.
I would speak to her consultant or GP about this.
It's a new development with her seizures and not something we can help with here apart from give you support or advice, sending lots of hugs and hope you get some clarification soon xxx
Hi I have Motor FND, but know someone with FND Non-Epileptic Seizures and I have witnessed his seizures first hand. He hyperventilates just before the seizure, then to others is unresponsive/stiff, though he told me he is fully aware of what is going on around him during the seizure, remembers them, but is exhausted and groggy afterwards for hours to days. So not the symptoms that your partner gets by the sounds of it?
Now I know every FND Sufferer and Medical Professional says that FND or Conversion Disorder (the old term) will present with different symptoms in different people - but honestly there is a distinct medical `Positive Sign' which tells them it is FND and not Epilepsy/Hemiplegic Stroke etc. If it is FND Non-Epileptic Seizures then there is no Epilepsy medication advised - because the Epilepsy medication side effects can be worse than the FND and not prevent or improve the seizures either!
