It could be a contributory factor in some cases, and possibly in yours if you have a history of such disorders. But it is not the only explanation, and this is demonstrated by the fact there are lots of people with FND without such a history - or indeed any history - of mental health problems.
If you are comfortable with that statement in relation to your own situation perhaps your neuropsych can move it on to the next stage and tell you how s/he will help you address both the underlying and presenting disorders?
Hi, thanks for reply. I am going to go to one on one session of talking to a professional person,
I'm not 100% satisfied with my diagnosis, I understand our brains are very complex, but pain and loosing the ability to move your body due to stress/ mental health.!!! . !
When I saw Mr (now Prof) Mark Edwards a few years ago he told me that it was most unusual for emotional distress/mental health to cause these symptoms - only in extreme cases, such as war-related shock, or prolonged mental and physical trauma. The mind has an amazing capacity and you probably can't rule anything out, but the fact that there are so many people who have these symptoms without a link to mental health suggests there is more to it than that, in my opinion. Good luck with your next appointment!
Hi. Thanks for that info. In my teenage years I done a lot of drug abuse (mind altering) LSD. Amphetamines, uppers and Downers. Also solvent abuse(gas).
Could this be classed as trauma to the brain????
Thanks hope all is well
You should also be aware that some FNDs are like the opposite of placebos, where instead of making you feel better like placebos would, they bring on bad symptoms. This is the "illness-belief" type of FND. Some FNDs are neither like an "illness belief" nor emotional conversion disorder.
