My brother used to always ask if was "cogitating" on something when I was quiet. That did not occur very often because I was seldom quiet.
Nowadays, I may cogitate more than I realize.
So, type in the phrase astronomy picture of the day. It should bring you to a site apod.NASA.gov.
Each day, NASA posts a picture, often of the cosmos, with an explanation by a professional astronomer of what you are looking at and how the picture was taken.
There is a tiny little arrow button about halfway down the page which let's you scroll through the archive of pictures.
I think today I saw a star cluster ngc602 just beyond the small Magellanic Cloud. It is breathtaking.
Years ago I took the family to Florida to witness a space shuttle launch. We actually got within the Cape boundaries compliments of Tricia's brother who worked as a NASA engineer. I put the kids on the roof of the van with me and a tripod camera.
When the fuel tanks ignited, the sky lit up, the van shook, the kids cried, the thunderous roar overtook us. My mouth fell open, I forgot about the camera and I just watched.
It was incredibly perfect. The shuttle rolled over on schedule and it took off skyward leaving only a trail of white.
Space is so real. Enjoy the pics. Let the mind roam the universe and its spectacular formations and births.
We have no limitations. Only those we accept.
Sleep well amongst the stars...
