On Tuesday April 25th, 4:30PM Pacific/7.30PM Eastern, (US and Canada) and April 26th 09:30 AM  (Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney), the Prostate Cancer Foundation will be continuing their educational webinars.

The aim of these webinars is to connect patients and caregivers with current, essential information across the various stages of the prostate cancer journey. Each month, Dr. Ryan speaks with leaders in the field of prostate cancer diagnosis, treatment, research, and survivorship and answer questions during these live virtual events.

The webinars are FREE and open to ALL.

As the topic for this month looks at some of the basics around trials and this subject comes up on this forum from time to time the content in this presentation might be of interest to some members.

Description:

Clinical trials for prostate cancer play a vital role in getting new diagnostic methods and treatments into clinical practice. They can offer the potential for life-extending therapy, and are also available for patients at earlier stages of prostate cancer.  Patients and families have many questions: Is it safe? What happens during the trial? Can I still see my doctor? Who pays for it? If I’m in the “placebo” group, what kind of treatment will I receive?

New week, PCF President and CEO Charles J. Ryan, MD, hosts two leaders in prostate cancer clinical care and research. His guests will address these questions, and many more, separating fact from fiction. Dr. Garraway will discuss the clinical trials process, what participants can expect, and what questions patients should ask their doctor. Dr. Washington will speak to the importance of including people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives in trials.

About the speakers:

Isla Garraway, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Urology and Director of Research, Member of the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Member of the Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCLA. She maintains a clinical practice within the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System, where she also conducts clinical research.

Samuel Washington III, MD, MAS is Assistant Professor of Urology and holds the Goldberg-Benioff Endowed Professorship in Cancer Biology at UCSF. His clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of genitourinary malignancies. His research focuses on understanding racial/ethnic disparities in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of clinically localized prostate cancer.

Usually, if you register and you miss the live presentation they send you a link to view later and I think these are usually available on the PCF website eventually.

Would think you'd be across everything that's going to be discussed and more Paul but perhaps the question and answer component might bring up something of interest.

Hope you are both enjoying sunshine and waves as we are fast heading towards winter...

Registered now. Knowledge is like an expanding (and irregular) sphere. As what we know expands, what we do not know (the outside) is always expanding more. What we do not know ever exceeds our knowledge. Wonderful!

Turning from warm to hot here in Mexico just now. Very beautiful through May, then back to Oregon. Abrazos (hugs). Paul

Yes just so much available. We're so very fortunate. Prioritisings is a bit of a challenge... sometimes hard to know what to choose...what's relevant for the present, might be helpful for the future or just of general interest. Hugs back to you too...x
