Greetings FPC Members,

First, a glutamine uptake blocker, IMD-0354, in development to starve tumors. The work continues to find a way to slow progression and put PCa on a chronic disease pathway. From the study--"Our study shows that targeting SLC1A5, which stops glutamine from ever entering the cell in the first place, is an effective way to slow cancer cell growth," says Yongmei Feng, Ph.D., staff scientist in the Ronai lab at Sanford Burnham Prebys and first author of the study. "Because many tumor types are dependent upon glutamine for survival, this drug may be able to treat many different types of cancers." The article:

Using the bacteria in the microbiome to attack cancer. The work continues to utilize bacteria to attack cancer. By targeting bacterial peptides within cancer cells, researchers believe they can enhance the potential of targeted T cell therapy and improve immunotherapy results. from the article:

"They may be exploited to help immune T cells recognize the tumor with greater precision, so that these cells can mount a better attack against the cancer. This approach can in the future be used in combination with existing immunotherapy drugs."

From the recent issue of "Oncology Times" , researchers find a way to identify dormant cancer cells for eradication. Frequently, dormant cancer cells hide out in distant niches, such as the inner lining of bones, where they can elude the impact of conventional chemotherapy. The goal of Croucher's research was to figure out where these dormant cells hide, why they're reawakened, and how best to target them to prevent the relapse of cancer. The article:

The Science is Coming....sadly, not fast enough for some... but I watch it with hope that a chronic disease state for PCa is coming within 7 years...

Nal,

It is fine that I am here...I may not get the following that I would at a larger forum like the one that you post on, but people still follow for the information provided. I enjoyed your post on Casodex and Adaptive Theory--Good work by you !!! By the way, but it seemed to make one poster irate... some people...go figure..

Your knowledge of nutraceuticals is wonderful and they are lucky to have you on that forum. I eat a fair amount of hot sauce and hot peppers, but I do not take Ashwagandha. Is there a brand that you recommend??

"one irate poster"? Hummm, let me think . . . WHO might that be?

It IS good to see that there are several open-minded posters at that forum who seem to carry a respectable amount of water for alternative views that sensibly challenge those of Dr. (SOC-or-Die) Irate.

Captain K9,

Indeed...it is good to keep all options on the table.... Thanks to you for being a part of that ladder that helps so many people.

As always, thank you for your research and your posts. You boost morale and give hope where it's needed. 😀 G &J

Thank you both for the reply... There is hope.... Hard to believe that abiraterone was approved in 2011....just 10 years ago.... we've come a long way and so many new drugs through or into Phase 2 already. It is why I made my bold prediction of chronic state within 7 years... I say hang on 5 years and the drugs under development will get you 5 more (likely longer).

All the best to you and yours,

What do you mean by this HU and the regular HU. Didn't know there were 2

There is only ONE HU, but there are several PCa forums. We are a different forum than the one that Nal posts on usually...

Mr. Fish,

This recent work at Duke seems to confirm the role of glutamine in the development of CR. Another crack developing in the SOC treat-to-resistance theory? Say it ain't so.

Captain K9,

It is what I have believed for some time....the initial therapy for Pca may evolve to something beyond SOC and push SOC/anti androgen therapies down the road... Patients might start with a vaccine, radiation like SBRT and Xofigo or a nanoparticle therapy, and a glutamine inhibitor... I preach this regularly... look for new therapies and combos... options are changing rapidly with new discoveries... It will result in cures/ long remissions and things are just getting started... The Golden Age of Oncological Research is upon us...This does not even include crossovers from other cancers... What a change in 11 years... 2011 saw the approval of abiraterone... What will CoVid research do for a PCa vaccine ??

Stay tuned.....

Thank you....Working on something to put out in the next few days.... It is hard to find hope sometimes, but the research and knowledge has come so far in 10 years....what will the next 5 years get us??? I do wonder....

Regarding Glutamine. I bought Ashwagandha for my father, but then I read that it might cause an increase in T? Do you use anything else?

NPfisherman in reply to TheTopBanana

At this point no, because I have a pretty solid regimen that I feel covers quite a bit...I also feel like I take so much and that is enough....One must ask how many supplements can I take daily before this goes wrong ?? ....I have watched labs for several years....added a few things at vacation and so far so good... Now, if I could just get back to the gym and get back on my diet....LOL.... just got the J&J vaccine so back to the gym I go...
