Medicare patients could lose access to advanced cancer treatment; i.e., Proton Therapy

This is very bad news for anyone anticipating or needing proton therapy. .From the article:

"If implemented as written, many cancer institutions would be in the difficult position of not being able to offer their patients proton therapy because the reimbursement rate would not adequately cover the costs for delivering this sophisticated technology. As a result, many proton centers may have to shut their doors, and new ones won’t open as planned. Access to proton therapy would decrease for all patients—especially in rural and underserved areas—not just those covered by Medicare."

Special thanks to teamkv for the repost and a very special thank you for the post, my K9 Terror Amigo...

It brings to mind the question if people that reside in rural locations and/or are old are...in a word....expendable... How horrible...

For me, I got SBRT at an early stage...My insurance covered it, but it would have been $100,000 for my 3 tx of SBRT out of pocket.... Kind of crazy since each treatment took less than 20 minutes...
