Bedroom Tax info
I've read that if the spare room is under a certain size its a box room and can't he taxed as a spare room.... Might be worth looking at x
Dont know if any-one on here knows but if you go to your local council office and ask for a DHP form (dicretionary Housing Payment) and you may be able to claim back the extra being charged for the 'room' my sister has just picked one up from our council office and they have advised that she probably be entitled to claim. And she is on ESA and has her 22 year old son living with her who is on jobseekers. It asks a lot of questions ie how much your heating bills are/ food/clothes/ toiletries/ credit card etc etc, but it is worth a try. The government is not telling people about this. It was in the local paper to claim and to pass the information on.
Hello Everyone,
Rumors are circulating that if your room is less than 70sq ft that you don't have to pay Bedroom Tax, this is inaccurate
housing.org.uk/policy/welfa...
On the above website it gives the following information;
Do the regulations define a bedroom?
No. The Government’s view is that it is for landlords to specify the size of the property and this ought to match what is on any tenancy agreement and reflect the level of rent charged. The bedroom tax will not take account of whether a room is a single or a double bedroom. A room either is a bedroom or is not a bedroom.
There have been rumours circulating on social media that room under 70 sq ft do not count as a bedroom - but this is not the case. The information seems to be based on a mis-reading of the Housing Act regarding overcrowding
Hope this helps
