I think the main problem Nikki is because no-one can see or feel our illness. Any invisible illness is hard to detect and hard ot diagnose. At one time even medical professionals thought that Fibro was all in our heads. Slowly they are awaking to the fact that the illness is real and very debilitating.

Thankfully nowadays there are Doctors and Consultants who believe that Fibromyalgia exists and they are very supportive and empathetic. However there are still many unfortunately who do not believe. I firmly believe one day Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) will all be recognised and will be treated the same as other conditions. It's a time thing unfortunately. That is also why this forum and support groups all help to raise awareness for Fibro! :) :)

too true and thank you. there is so many aches, pains, thoughts and feelings to do with fm and me. are they connected? i wonder. i get real painful jaw spasms when i try and eat and other times when im real hungry, i just think wat the? im going to feel pain regardless of whether i eat or not.

Hi Nikki

I was diagnosed with fibro in Feb. Before that I had xrays for my bad back which I'd been having for yesrs & my GP told me I had Myofascial Pain Syndrome & they quite happily gave me co-codamol & diclofenic to treat it. Anyway I began having er problems & was refferd to an orthopaedic consultant. I saw him twice & he diagnosed me with Fibro.

My GP the said fibro is very hard to prescribe meds for & gave me tramadol.

I did'nt like the tamadol, I also take venlafaxine for deppression & the two meds are quite

similar & should not be taken together. The Tramadol did nothing for me & am being weend of it.

So now my GP says there is nothing else the can prescribe for pain & keep blaming my pains all over on deppression which is bull. Depression is under control.

GPs now tell me the only way to get rid of pain, even migrane which I can feel one starting is to excersise of which I can feel one starting.

How in the name of god are we meant to exercise when somedays we can barely get out of bed?

So I am changing surgeries this week, I have one 5 mins away from. & have been tolf to request a certain Dr as he believes & is very good with fibro & helps to vrt you the right meds.

So atfer all my horrible experiences, do some homework & find a Doc who is willing to help you. Otherwise go for a jog & you'll be fkne lol. (not)

Good luck

luv & hugs

Jackie
