I had to find out for myself Diddle, as I had seen it on the Food Hospital and then I found out that my local hospital in Torbay has a FODmap trained dietician. They have to be specially trained not an ordinary one. If you google Fodmap there is plenty of of info on it and you can but a paperback that tells you how to do it from Amazon. Kings College Hospital in London run the training for this diet and can provide you with the name of your local NHS one if there is one.

Seems to me a lot of people with Fybro also have IBS..anyone else with the two things?

in reply to Fificat

Hi Fificat,

A lot of us here have two or more things as well as fibro. I have IBS and RLS and an underactive thyroid and osteoarthritis. We are blessed y'see, we can have lots of things to go with our fibro :) :(

I've just got up and got a busy day ahead of me but I'll have a look at Fodmap later on, thank you for that.

Have a good day.

Hugs

i have been trying it but im not good at sticking to things, u might need some supplements if ur cuuting out alot of things xx here's what i'v come up with through my research xx

;A large raw mixed vegetable salad

;A minimum of two fresh fruits (not juices)

;Three other lightly steamed vegetables, one green leafy veg, one non-leafy green veg and one red or orange veg - large portions please!

;A cup of cooked pulses such as beans, or lentils, or any other vegetable protein and / or 200g of lightly steamed or grilled fresh fish

;One large baked potato in its skin or one large banana (in addition to the fruits above)

;As much organic short grain brown rice as you can possibly eat

;Any other unprocessed grains or grain products such as quinoa, polenta, vegetable or corn pasta, oats, muesli (salt and sugar free - with soya milk) millet

;Silymarin - a herbal supplement that will support liver detoxification

;A moderate-dose broad spectrum multi-vitamin and mineral supplement

;Additional buffered vitamin C

;Co-enzyme Q-10 (to increase cellular energy levels)

;Ginkgo Biloba ( to increase circulation)

The worst trigger foods for IBS are:

French fries

Onion rings

Fried chicken

Anything battered and deep-fried

Anything skillet-fried in fat of any kind

Shortbread

Margarine

All oils, fats, spreads, etc.

Mayonnaise

Salad dressings

Tartare sauce

Coconut milk

Shredded coconut

Solid chocolate (baking cocoa powder is fine)

Solid carob (carob powder is fine)

Olives

Nuts and nut butters

Croissants, pastries, biscuits, scones, and doughnuts

Pie crust

Potato chips (unless baked)

Nachos (unless baked)

Shop-bought dried bananas (they're almost always deep fried)

Sharrona sounds interesting but that is not the Fodmap diet which is not nearly so restricting as this as this but does disallow many fruits which are very high in Fods and some veg, so lets not confuse the two. Also a Fodmap dietician will help you with re-inclusion in a scientific way so as you can really identify the culprits. It is quite a high protien diet with sugars of any kind being the main things to avoid (although Maple syrup is allowed which is a god send if you ahve a sweet tooth!)

Hi Fificat, I have both of these conditions, infact, when I look at all the symptons you can get with fibro I don't think there is anything I havn't got or havn't had!!. Its a relief to know I am not going mad as I used to think I was making up some of these things. I have had IBS for about 25 years together with Dry Eye Syndrome and other things but its only in the last few years it has all been put together to come up with fibro!. xx

Meant to say too, at one of my tribunals one of the doctors made a comment about how knowledgable I was about my condition, well, you have to be don't you otherwise you may as well be on a sinking ship xx
